How to drive a honda civic hybrid car with out hybrid battery?
Bought a car about 4 months ago and the battery is now dead. I check to make sure its not the normal battery and Auto Zone said it was fine. I'm sure its the hybrid battery but i don't have the money to pay 1,000 or more for a battery on a car i just spent money on. Is there a way you can drive this car without the hybrid battery? Or dose anyone know a place to get these batteries cheaper?
Take it to a Honda dealer. I'm no expert on the hybrid cars, but I recall all the "battery replacement will cost thousands of dollars!" comments not even that long ago, yet it seemed like no hybrids were actually needing batteries replaced in the first place.
If it were me, I'd take it to Honda and have them diagnose it. There might be some smart folks at AutoZone, but I'd not EXPECT any of them to be an expert on your car. It could be something as dumb as a bad connection to the battery or other hybrid-specific component that Honda will know what to look for. Certainly not going to kill you to just have them inspect it, and at least you can be somewhat assured they will know what they are talking about.
No, that specific battery is required for the car to function.
BTW, it's more than $1000, and you should have realized this when you bought the car.
I'm no expert but the engine kicks on when the battery is low. You have a permanently low battery so the engine should be on all the time. Some posts say that the honda does not have a conventional alternator to keep the 12v charged. If so there's a problem. Go to the honda dealer and get exact info.
The answer is no, it will need a hybrid battery to run.
That being said, how old is this car and how many miles are on it? The Hybrid battery should be covered for up to 15 years and 150K miles if the vehicle is registered and normally operated in CA and any other state that has adopted Zero emission vehicle regulations.
If you don't live in CA, then check with your Honda dealer for details on if it's covered under warranty, as these vary by state.
In addition, if you have a 06-08 model, check to see if there are any open recalls. These years were horrible buys for the Civic Hybrid, but an open recall and fix could save you the cost of replacing the battery (about $2100).
- Which car battery is better? EverStart Maxx Lead or Duralast Gold/Battery? Facts: I drive a 2007 Honda SE, 4 cylinder. Been using a Kirkland (costco battery; group size 51r) for about 5 years. Looking for a battery in case this one dies.
- Roughly how much could I get from selling my hybrid car with a dead hybrid battery? I have a 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid with about 175k miles. I'm the second owner and there's nothing else wrong with it besides the dead hybrid battery. The battery is very expensive to replace and it's honestly just more of a financially smart decision to sell it rather than spending about 2,000 on a new battery. I just want to know what is a decent price to let it go for considering the hybrid battery is dead ultimately making it useless until replaced.
