I have a 99 Honda Civic LX. I'm not sure how to tell ifI the engine a sohc or dohc, as there's no infortion on the underside of the hood?

I believe it to be a SOHC.

Dohc will have a channel in the middle of the valve cover with the spark plugs inline

sohc, no channel and spark plugs lined up on the front edge of the valve cover

Take the top plastic cover off of the timing belt and look to see if you have 2 camshafts.

Your Engine Code is D16Y7 1996-2000 Honda Civic DX/VP/LX/CX. Kit is a SOHC non VTEC engine.

Sometimes it is imprinted on the valve covers of the engine!

  • What do you call that square metal that protrudes in Honda CRV underside? My uncle has a Honda CRV and It is always a bummer, also a photo bummer seeing that metal that is visible when looking at the front of the car. My uncle sometimes go on harsh roads on it and most of the time it catches some twigs, brushes vines, even have few dents after hitting some rocks… I mean what is that? I know does something to its suspension but come on it kinda ugly to look at especially its usually the first thing people will notice.
  • Won't start not sure if water pump needs replacing or needs new engine? 2004 Honda civic DX 1.7L engine 155k? My car won't start i had to press the gas really hard to get it going before but now it started smoking(white) from under the hood and smelling burnt every time we try and start it up. I saw leaking under the car. Probably the coolant because its blue. Not sure if a new water pump and timing belt would do the job and or if we need to swap the entire engine. Before this I noticed that the engine would get hot or shut off whenever we stopped moving and finally this happened.
  • Hi there, I have a Honda civic 2010. I will appreciate if you tell me what the orange sensore is for? Actually, when I bought it(used) I saw a free thick wire that connected to the orange sensor.(it showed by red flesh on the picture) The engine works well and no warning lights are on.
