It will be easier with the harness, so you don't have to wire in your VTEC solenoid, but it's not necessary. You will also need the ecu for that engine, be it an auto or manual for your car.
And yes, you can use your old transmission, but your old transmission won't fully utilize the powerband of that particular motor. Pretty much, old transmission equals long gearing.
A legit transmission for that particular motor would have a little "B000" stamped on the casing, near the drain and fill plugs for the transmission.
It's not cleared by what you've said: "i'm doing a swap for a 1.6 vtec" A complete engine or just the head? If it's just the head then you'll need more than that: The VTEC system will need oil pressure to operate, so locate and remove the plug on the old block to supply the oil to the VTEC head. Then the wiring harness, the PCM. If complete engine and if it's a B series (Don't know what you have) then the first thing you'll need is a B transmission (If the replacement engine isn't D)
You'll need those things, even with an engine swap, especially the old transmission won't fit. Anyway, what engine you're talking about? An 1.6 VTEC should be a D16Z6 and it's an OBD2 and your old transmission should fit and it helps because of the swap simplicities that I've know about the 1.5 to 1.6 VTEC. (Cheapest way)
Your old engine should be a D15B7 so which engine you're going to do the complete engine swap with? There are several and different in parts/ components needed. Etc
Edit: There are forums online and yes: Lots of websites talking about the Honda engine swaps, transmission conversions etc. Do some searching for yourself and do plan ahead of time before you make a costly mistake. HTH
That's a start.
- I'm thinking about doing an engine swap. B series vtech or K series vtech? I have a 2000 honda ek coupe with a d series vtech, but I'm looking to upgrade the power without the use of forced induction. My best bet is an engine swap but I'm still deciding between a b20 vtech or a k20 vtech. Which one would give me more power and what parts will I need?
- I have a 97 Honda Civic Ex engine Swap from a 99 to 2000 honda Si? I would like to know if i can fit a b16a2 i believe? Engine to my 97 civic without any modifications? Because i just want to take out the current engine and place the SI engine in a quick simple manner.
- Can a 16.L engine fit into a 1998 Honda Civic LX? (before doing engine swap)? I had an blown motor on my 1998 Honda Civic LX, I have new spark plugs, distributor cap and some other items, however, since the old spark plugs happened to be melted as well, I have no option other to do a engine swap. I've been doing some research, and it seems like I only have the 1.6L engine as a option. By the way, the blown motor is a D16Y8, and is automatic.
- I'm thinking if doing a project and want to know what would be best with an engine swap? I was thinking of doing a project on a Honda civic, I have seen S2k builds and had decided that I might try to do that rather then the classic K series or B series build, sombly because of the fact I want to try and stand out. I was wondering which motor would be better, the JDM F20C, or the USDM F22C1? I had researched and the only difference I could find was displacement and torque differences. I just want to know what would respond better to mods?
