Mini Cooper or Honda Civic for a new driver? Which is easier to control?

I'm not the best at driving but I want the easiest car to drive and handle.

Added (1). if control is from the driver, which is easier to drive?

The control is in the skill of the driver, not the vehicle.

Get the lower powerd car.

The Civic is easier, and much more reliable. Minis are serious money pits. Engine replacement for $8000 is common, and expenses of $1000 or more are just a part of life with a Mini.

Hi so a Honda is the best of the two as it is japanese. The other is just german junk. Not a british product like it was originally.

Driving is about the same, as any modern car, They all have the same controls, and won't randomly spin out without warning. Only exception there would be the Cooper S and Works Specials, which are turbocharged, rather quick, and easier for a new driver to get into trouble. Cool to be able to get to 100 mph in 14 seconds. But things go wrong REAL fast at that speed.

But buy the Honda as they are more reliable, and cheaper to maintain. Suggest you avoid the new Type R Honda as a new driver. It's even faster than the Works Cooper.

I would recommend the Honda Civic, it is a really well handling car.

The Mini has gotten a terrible maintenance record…

The MINI is honestly not suited to new drivers. (And this is coming from someone who LOVES Coopers) Maintenance can be expensive, especially since it's considered a 'premium' car. They also take premium gas… And while they are sporty and fun, most MINI drivers buy them for their cool-factor: not because they are reliable. This isn't to say they are horrible cars; just that their dependability is lacking when compared to other manufacturers. I've heard rumors that the smartest way to obtain a MINI is to lease it.

You don't want to lease your first car. It's a major hassle, and can end up costing you hundreds or even thousands more than you first agreed, especially if you drive long distances and run up the odometer that way. I'd recommend the Civic. Really any Honda or Toyota product will do just fine for a new driver - and last you for years to come, provided you treat it with care and respect.

Love your car, value it, and it will love you back!
