Toyota Corolla vs Honda Civic, which can last longer?

So the Toyota Corolla vs. Honda Civic, which is better and why?

They're pretty much identical.

I would pick the civic because Honda gives the better warranty protection. It's 5 years or 60K miles while Toyota only gives 3 years or 36K miles.

They're both typically very good vehicles. "Better" is a subjective term. Which one will last longer really depends on how each example is driven and maintained.

It depends. Newer Toyota Corolla's and Honda Civic's (and new cars in general) aren't built to last as long as older cars because most of the interior is overwhelmingly electronics and plastic parts, which are prone to breaking down in as little as 15 years or less according to what a mechanic once told me.

I'm going to say that I see more older Honda Civic's (5th generation and 6th generation) on the road) than older Toyota Corolla's (8th generation and 9th generation). The oldest Honda Civic's I've seen on the road is two in total, which were the 3rd generation hatchback. Oldest Toyota Corolla's being the 8th generation, which I've seen more than third generation Honda Civic's, since Toyota puts higher quality parts into their cars than Honda in regards to automatic transmissions.

Answer this question, do you still see older Toyota Corolla's and older Honda Civic's on the road? If so, do you think today's Toyota Corolla's and Honda Civic's will last another 20 years from now?

As a brand new car, either one will last a long time if you take good care of it, change oil regularly, and keep it properly repaired.

However, as used cars, every used car is different, depending on its current condition, how it's been driven, and how well it's been maintained. Even a Honda Civic or Corolla can be junk and won't last another 100 miles. You just don't know. That's why it is so important to have a mechanic check out any used car you think you want to buy BEFORE you buy it. That will give you a good idea of how much longer the vehicle will last.

I think its about the same or near the same, both of them are good cars.

That's like asking whether heads or tails is better. The truth is that the car you maintain better and treat more gently will be the one that lasts longer no matter what brand it is.

Both can last a very long time with proper maintenance. However, the Toy is a bit better built.

  • What is better a 2014 Honda Civic or 2014 Toyota Corolla? I'm looking at these cars in terms of price and more "bang for your buck." Both seem interesting to me and I have yet to test drive them. The Honda Civic seems like it is the better car based on reviews but the newly redesigned Toyota Corolla looks better than previous versions and is slightly cheaper than the Civic. Which one should I consider looking towards? Please do not mention any other car, I'm only focused on these two at the moment.
  • What car is better and will last longer? Mazda 6 '08 vs Honda Civic '06? I currently have a Honda 06 with about 104,000 miles on it and my mom said I can either keep my Honda or take her Mazda 6 with around 80,000 miles on it. Now I know that the Mazda has less mileage but I hear that Hondas will last forever. I want my car to last me for at least a couple more years maybe 10 if I'm lucky. I don't drive far at all either. What car is a better choice for the long run?
