Volvo or honda for teen driver?

My parents are planning on buying me a car in about a month and have done tons of research, they have narrowed it down to two options for me to choose from.
a 2009 volvo c30
a 2012 honda civic
which car is better for a newly licensed driver, most practical, safe, stylish, economical? I care alot about the appearance as well and would just like some other opinions on each car and the stigma that comes with driving them.

I understand that I'm very fortunate in the fact that my parents care enough to spend this money on getting me a nice car.

Id go for the Honda but then I have owned seven so far which is how good they are in my opinion

The Civic is ugly, but parts will be cheaper and fuel consumption should be lower. As for safety, it's not just Volvo that offers safety features these days. Everyone else has been busy weighing down their cars with redundant safety features. The ultimate safety features is a safe driver. Newer Volvos are known to be unreliable pieces of junk. Civics have the teenage ricer stereotype. People joke about Volvo safety features that prevent you from taking control and having fun. Other cars worth considering include a Mazda 3, a Hyundai Elantra, a Subaru, or Honda Fit.

If reliability and cost of maintenance and repairs is an issue for you the Civic would be far superior.

  • Is a minivan a good first car for a teen? So I'm 17 and just got my license and I'm an excellent driver, according to myself and anyone who's ever rode in a car with me… My parents are going to give me their minivan which is a Honda Odyssey 2007. Not that I'm unappreciative of them giving me a car for free, but I wonder if this is safe? Since it's such a large car would it be safer to drive a sedan like a Civic or something?
