What is the cause of 2nd gear popping back into neutral?
I own a 1997 Honda Civic Ex (coupe) SOHC VTEC that has been having this issue with the manual transmission where 1st gear chugs and 2nd gear pops out back into neutral causing the gear to grind pretty hard. I've come across many forums all giving different reasons to why this happens. I'd like to get a more definitive answer (if possible) from anyone who has had issues like/or similar to this, any mechanics out there willing to send some wisdom and tips my way is greatly appreciated.
Synchromesh is failing. Time for a recon gearbox.
Hi you need a new gearbox as this one is so worn it needs to be replaced.
Yes it's all bad news I'm afraid. Time for an exchange gearbox as yours is knackered. Seriously consider a replacement clutch too as if it is original it will be close to death. When the gearbox is off the clutch is easily replaced with very little extra labour. If you neglect the clutch and it goes later on the gearbox has to come off again with consequent expenditure.
2nd gear SYNCHRO is out.
- We have a 2006 Honda CBR. When you drive it, there's a loud whirring noise coming the back underneath side. What could cause that noise? The noise is situated around a CV boot on the left underneath side where the differential connects to the middle.
- Is the 1985 Honda CR 500 water pump gear shaft compatible with the 86-2001 Honda CR 500 water pump gear shaft? I have a 1985 CR 500 and the water pump gear shaft broke. It has been discontinued from Honda, and no one else has it. It is a metal gear. The one's for the 1986-2001 CR 500 are plastic. If I have to use plastic, I will. However, I prefer not to. If anyone knows where I can get the OEM 1985 Honda CR 500 gear shaft, I would forever be grateful.
- Accidentally drove in 2nd gear on highway with automatic. Did I cause any damage to my car? I didn't get much sleep so this morning I was little out of it. On my 15 minute commute to work I accidentally put my automatic car in 2nd gear instead of drive. I drove on the highway for 5 minutes going 60. I didn't notice until I got to work and realized that's why my car felt a little different while driving. It's a 2002 Honda crv. Could I have caused any long term damage?
- My car's shifter keeps popping out of gear? 1993 Honda Civic My car has recently been pooping out of gear. I think it's the shifter, It goes into gear and then it pops out. It feels like it's slowly getting pushed out. I got a new trans a year ago. Any ideas?
