Which car should I get next? (Currently own an 07 Honda Civic)?

I currently own an 07 Honda Civic, 2.2 TDCI EX, around 150bhp, it's a lovely car but i'm looking to upgrade soonish for that newer car feel (it's exciting!) I'm wondering which car to upgrade to next.

My civic fills up for about £60 and will do around 50mpg, so my ideal next car I would love to have around the same/ better efficiency, around the same/ slightly more horsepower, 5 seater, 5 doors, Bluetooth etc. I'm on a budget of about 5k (will buy car second hand) so I'm not expecting anything mindblowing or anything from the last 4 or so years. I was looking into fiestas or focuses but the ones I can afford kind of seem a downgrade to me in terms of performance and appearance (not looking at ST's or RS's purely for low fuel efficiency in comparison). I learnt in a Fiesta and loved it but the horsepower just doesn't equate to that of a Honda civic!

So what I'm trying to figure out is where can I go with that 5k? I'll admit my knowledge of cars isn't fantastic, so thought I'd come here to ask people who know much more!

Other than another Civic, if you hope to get into anything newer than 2007, with similar mpg and equal or better performance, your choices are really limited. Either you're going to have to spend more money, or accept lower mpg for better performance, or sacrifice performance for equal or better mpg. The only newer vehicles I'm aware of for around £5000 that top the specs of your Civic is a 2008-2009 Fiat Bravo, 2.0 liter diesel. However, it's a Fiat and reliability is questionable compared to a Honda. The other is a 2008-2009 BMW 120d that is a bit more exciting but gets lower mpg. It's also pricier to fix if something goes wrong, but a pretty decent car. In my opinion, wanting to upgrade just because you're bored with your car is foolish. In older used cars, you'll be trading the problems you know for the problems you don't know. By the way, it isn't horsepower that determines performance, it is primarily horsepower-to-weight ratio.
