Will I fail an inspection with a bad master cylinder cap?

I'm in NY and I have a 2000 honda civic. The master cylinder cap has a level that when under level makes the brake light turn on. When I disconnect it the light goes back out. If I leave it disconnected. Will I fail inspection? Is there a way to take the cap apart and fix the level sensor?

My 2001 did the same thing, only when it was cold. As long as the brake lamp illuminates when the ignition is turned on, then goes out when you start it, good to go.

No, you will not fail, just disconnect the wire and you will pass. Just make sure the master cylinder resivoir is at the full mark. The only way to fix the cap is to replace it which you do not have to do as long as you check the brake fluid level monthly.

  • Remote start = light fail? I have a 2013 Honda fit. About a week ago I went to a company to have a remote start installed on my car. A few weeks later, the upper blinker on the passenger side went out. Could this be a short caused by installing the remote start, or are they completely unrelated things? The car is barely 3 years old, certainly not old enough to be burning out lights already? About a month ago, sorry
  • 4 cylinder vs 6 cylinder vs 8 cylinder vs 10 cylinder? Which is better to get? On small sized cars such as Honda Civic, Mitsubishi Lancer and Toyota Corolla you're stuck with 4 cylinder, since 6-cylinder is not available as the option What if I get v8 or v10 vehicles… Is there any problems?
  • Should i buy the 4 Cylinder or 6 cylinder Honda Accord 2007? I'm tempted to purchase the 6 cylinder model but i've heard it's not as reliable as the 4 cylinder with their transmission problems. Is this true. Also what mpg do the 6 cylinder typically get. I know it differs from each driver.
  • Can I put a 4 cylinder cold air intake into a 6 cylinder? I have a 2002 honda accord v6… I got a cold air intake for a v4 civic… Will it make a difference if I put it in my v6?
