Worth buying a honda civic si with replaced head gasket?

Looked at a 2008 honda civic si that has 73,000 miles the car was flawless inside and out. Then the owner told me it blew the original HG. He took it to a machine shop and then did the rest of the work himself. And now runs fine. Is this car still worth buying or should I walk away?

The owner is getting out of it. He knows things and is bailing. There's your answer.

If the HG repair was done a month or so ago, and the car's been driven at least a couple hundred miles, AND the machine shop work can be verified, then I would consider this deal, as long as the price is reasonable.
If the repair was done very recently, then I agree with 'ponderer', and say forget this one.

Cars that are meticulously maintained almost NEVER blow a head gasket. This car was neglected, overheated, and then repaired by a shade tree mechanic. Personally, I would walk.

Feets, do your thing. He had the head machined which is important but I could rate this at best a good amateur repair. To begin with, the original head & block were all perfect. The best even a mechanic can get is clean, Unless you had both the head and the block planed, which is seldom done. These days, for some reason HGs are constantly blowing. On the other hand the car might be worth buying anyway. As far as is known it is fine.
