2001 Honda CR-V bad gas cap - automatic reset code?
I have a 2001 Honda CR-V that I need to have a smog check and the check engine light just turned on. Previously, the code was for a Gas leak, so I re-tightened the gas cap. Again, the check engine light turned on and when I got out of the car, I smelled has fumes. Checked the gas cap and the o-ring has a crack.
I do not want to reset the code, due to not wanting to complete a full drive cycle for the smog check. Will the 2001 Honda CR-V automatically erase the code when it senses the problem has been fixed? Or does this car require me to erase the code manually?
Hmm
Yes
Most self erase after some driving and 50 key starts have happened
Erase the code. Look up readiness test drive cycles for your car. That will tell you how to drive to complete the readiness codes with in half an hour. If you have a good code reader they monitor the readiness tests to let you know if they are complete. Here in Wisconsin you can still pass emission testing with one monitor not complete.

Honda sucks
My friend had a Honda that would do that when he filled up with Costco gas. His Toyota was OK on the same gas. When he put different gas in his Honda the problem went away. You could also replace the gas cap.
- Honda Amaze automatic or Hyundai Xcent automatic? Which would be better purely in terms of performance, acceleration, smooth and fast gearshifts and handling, i mean the better drivers car. I know hondas transmission and engines are great, but is the hyundai as good too? Even though the xcent has only 4 gears, i.e. 1 less than the amaze, it has tiptronic, would this by any chance improve the driving experience? I sadly don't have the opportunity to test drive these cars.
- Will starter from an automatic 2000 Honda civic LX fit on a automatic 2000 Honda civic HX? The lx is a 5 gear transmission and the hx is a CVT transmission. With the starter fit? Mine went out on my hx
- Will I fail an inspection with a bad master cylinder cap? I'm in NY and I have a 2000 honda civic. The master cylinder cap has a level that when under level makes the brake light turn on. When I disconnect it the light goes back out. If I leave it disconnected. Will I fail inspection? Is there a way to take the cap apart and fix the level sensor?
- What's the best automatic Honda Civic 1996-98 model (ex. Dx.lx. Etc) as far as gas mileage and reliability? I was interested in the 96-98 hx cvt civic yet there are many complaints of heavy vibrations when stalling. Also I can't drive manual and can't afford to take lessons
