Does AWD make a huge difference in the snow?

It snows pretty bad here in the Winter, so my girlfriend went to Honda and got a good deal to trade in her old 2017 Chevy Cruze she said she always got stuck in slush and snow even with snow tires on.

She really liked the Civic but the guy said its a FWD vehicle and that she will probably get stuck like the Cruze. Instead he offered the CRV Touring with AWD and 4WD capabilities. She said that when she got stuck she was able to move forward a little bit, but when it came to backing up she was stuck and the Honda guy said its because the rear wheels don't have any power. Hes like with winter tires on the CRV its much safer than a Civic with winter tires.

My girlfriend is a real estate agent so she drives a lot. He was saying that ground clearance matters a lot. There's an AWD TLX but it has low clearance?

Yes it makes a big difference. The AWD only clicks in when the rear wheels slip unless you set 4 wheel drive manually. She will love it. I have a Rav4

Yass, you are being well advised. Most people do okay with Front Wheel Drive and some snows, but there's no comparison to 4 wheel drive. I had it demonstrated to me how you can go right off the road into 18" snow and get where you are going. Naturally, you would not do this. But it certainly is the high road in snow country and I think probably every real estate person has it. The only downside might be MPG s and that is variable.

I never had a problem with my 1997 corolla in the snow. I did hear some of the newer cars have traction control and stability control which will actually make it drive worse in the snow. I suggest she turns off the traction and stability control when driving in the snow and see if it make a difference before you buy a new car.
