Is the new Jeep Cherokee good off road?

Specifically the base Sport model with FWD. I know it's not gonna be rock crawling or mud bogging, but with a good set of all terrains, could it handle occasional dirt roads/trails/wet grass?

Do the base models have under body protection? I mean I could just buy a Honda CR-V or Toyota Rav4 if it's at the same level.

Added (1). What about a Cherokee sport with 4WD? Would it be any better?

Hooplah

I do the occasional mud, river crossing, dirt road rally with an All Wheel Drive 2008 Mercury Mariner hybrid. The Jeep Cherokee is not an efficient vehicle with a "Do not buy" from Consumer Reports due to poor gas mileage and reliability issues. All vehicles with 4 X 4 or AWD capability can handle what you described. Jeep is just macho look myths for American boys and men.

Anything without 4WD or AWD will be bad at offroading for the sheer purpose of lack of traction.

the 4wd will be better for flat terrain, rails and wet grass but not good for anything past that.
