OOPS! I broke a screw?
I broke a screw off that holds the plug wires in place when I was replacing my plugs on my 2011 Honda Cr-V. Is this something that I can easily fix or should it go to a mechanic? I did not over-tighten the screw and the car runs just fine. I was hand tightening the screw and it broke off in the hole!
You finna die
If it wasn't over-tightened, it wouldn't have broke.
W/o a photo we have no idea of what you are referring to
You may have cross threaded it.
If it doesn't leak, leave it.
To remove it: If you can take something off to give you something to grab with vice grips, you're in luck.
If not it has to be drilled out. Sometimes you can get just enough bit in it to reverse the drill and turn it out.
If not it has to be drilled and re-tapped or what's called an 'easy out' used. And it ain't easy.
If it is not broke leave it alone.
The screw DOES NOT hold the Spark Plug wires in place.
It MAY hold a guide that keeps the wires in place. In 99% of engines, the guide isn't needed. In every car I have owned, the guide doesn't even exist.
If you are talking about the coil mounting bolt, you need to get it fixed. It holds the coil and the coil boot in place.
Have somebody repair it.
Don't do it yourself.
An experienced person should do the job.
Get a replacement screw from the Honda dealer. Don't use some inferior quality fastener from the hardware store.
If the threads in the valve cover (or wherever this is) are injured, it creates another problem.
1- it may thread to thread tied
2- Over tied
3- Corroded screw
How ever is broken, now what to do? If tip of the screw is above the mounting surface and you can grab it, then use lock wrench or pliers to untied it.
If is broken deep inside, then you need to make drill hole smaller than screw diameter and then use left turn tapping to open the broken screw.
If you can't do any of the above, then give it to mechanic shop.
Nothing to worry about
