What are the pros and cons of having an SUV over a Sedan?

An SUV like a CRV or Rav 4 and a Sedan like the Cruze or a Corolla.

Some people say its better in snow cause of the 4WD system. Does it really make a difference?

The guy at Honda also said wth an SUV you are higher off the ground and have a better view. But does that really matter when driving? Civics are low but does that make them unsafe?

SUVs have a higher center of gravity and are prone to flipping over in accidents or from sudden, sharp maneuvering. I've driven coupes and sedans my entire life and have never had a visibility problem. I owned one SUV, a Ford Explorer (it was my Dad's and I bought it from his estate only because I needed the cargo capacity for the amount of estate work I needed to do). It was worse on fuel and I saw no benefit from sitting a bit higher. I own a Chevy HHR which drives and handles like a car and gives me a little cargo capacity. I do not consider it an SUV and it's the closest to an SUV I care to be. I have always preferred hatchbacks.

I prefer SUVs and have owned a number of them over the years. I have a need to tow a trailer from time to time and having a real SUV (as compared to a crossover) is a plus. I like the increased visibility and the available space to haul cargo. Yes, they don't get great fuel mileage, but that's not my biggest concern.

No scraping the frame going over speed bumps LOL

If you drive normally the number of times you'll use the 4WD system - it only cuts in when you lose traction to one of the front wheels - is gonna be minuscule. But you still have to maintain it.
You do sit a little higher in an SUV which may help visibility if you like that. On the flip side, SUVs are less economical, heavier (because you are lugging around a few hundred pounds of transmission and drivetrain you rarely use) and having a higher centre of gravity, are less aerodynamic and don't corner as well. They are also less shopping-centre-carpark friendly but do carry a lot of stuff. Pays your money, take your choice. If you are seriously contemplating a purchase I'd be test driving the bejesus out of your shortlisted options. A car is a big investment. Get the one that is right for at least 80% of the driving you do.

  • Old honda goldwing pros and cons? I'm looking to buy a honda goldwing and I have a low budget which means the bike that I get will have an age between 1990-2001. Can anybody envisage any outstanding problems to watch out for? Should the mileage on the bike be more important to me than the age or vice versa?
  • Toyota SUV or Honda SUV? Highlander, rav4 and crv? I have narrowed it down to these 3 SUV Toyota highlander Toyota rav4 Honda crv I need a SUV that is good on gas ( 20 mpg of more preffered) very reliable as in will last forever of at least. A very long time with little problems and won't break down often. I know the highlander is bigger of the 3 and because of its size equals slightly less mpg. What does both toyota and honda have for reputations? Are they reliable and good vehicles? Opinions on these makes and models?
