Which car should i get as my first car?

I'm 14 right now and my dad told me that he would buy me a car this summer (it's not going to be mine until i'm 16 though) and he told me i had two options - a honda civic or crv. I don't know anything about cars so what do you think i should get? What's the best model for a new driver?

Both are Honda's. Both are good. Just depends if you want or need a car or a SUV

Civic! A CRV is a bit of a family car and would look more like your driving Mom's car. Civic's last forever!

I liked the 1997-2001 CRV (1st Gen) but they had a poor safety record, so I'd avoid those. Late 2001 to 2006 (second gen) are great. The i-VTec engine is a good one and gets good gas mileage. The late 2006 to 2011 (third gen) lost some of the boxy retro SUV coolness in my opinion. Still a good vehicle despite the minivan sort of styling. Late 2011-2016 (4th gen) are excellent with really good handling and full-time all wheel drive. A very good choice in snow country but maybe beyond the price range your dad has in mind. One thing, if you want room to haul stuff or go car camping, the CRV is a no-brainer.

The Civic has always been a good car and the older ones are hugely popular with the street mod crowd, especially the third gen 1983-87. Pretty much any generation of Civic will beat the pants off a CRV in gas mileage, but they don't carry much, especially if you go with a sedan. It's a personal thing, but I've always liked the looks and utility of the hatchbacks. The CRX version was an awesome little machine and got ridiculously good gas mileage. If you want to get into modding or street race, the Civic is what you want.
