Do i need to use honda coolant?

My honda oddysey manual says to only use honda coolant and that any other coolant will cause corrosion. Is this true? I have some coolant thats for all makes and models. Can i use that? Btw i'm changing the coolant not adding coolant

No

No

If it says other coolants WILL cause corrosion, that's a lie and they could probably be liable for it. They're not stupid, which is why I think that it must say MAY cause corrosion, or COULD. Something like that. No, you don't have to use Honda coolant. If the coolant you have says that it's for all makes and models, then it's for all makes and models.

Use only Honda coolant. I just read somewhere where all coolant isn't the same and not to use the coolant that says "for all makes and models"

Hondas are pickier about fluids than most makes. (You dare not screw around with transmission fluid, for instance.) And that undertone of "Why should I spend $50 on a $40,000 van?" should embarrass you.

Yes. It really isn't much different in price to normal coolants.

No. There are other coolant brands out there that make coolants to meet Honda's requirements. If you seriously think Honda doesn't subcontract their own coolant to someone else you are delusional.

You can get a universal coolant, I know Valvoline makes one.

I'd just use the stuff you have. If you're installing a flushing "T" in the heater core lines to flush the cooling system make sure to drain the radiator and then add 1/2 gallon of full strength antifreeze first. Follow with the rest of the antifreeze after diluting it 50/50 with tap water. That will give you a -35 degree protection level. There's always water remaining in the motor that you can't drain out and doing this compensates for that water.

No.
