I'm from Canada and I want to work in the Bahamas in Winter 2014/2015. What should I do first?
I'm a 24 year old male living in Canada. As you know our winters are quite bizarre and I've been pondering the thought of moving to the Bahamas to work for a winter season. Perhaps in hotel management or whatever you think is best fit for my area of expertise. I'm currently a 4 year veteran car salesperson at my local Honda dealership.
I'd imagine I would need to resign my current position to leave, which means when I come back to Canada I won't be able to simply come back.
Tough choice, but I want some change in my life!
The Bahamas has a VERY strict policy about issuing work permits to foreigners. You MUST have a special SKILL that they can't find in their OWN population. Even IF a work permit is issued, the person who gets the permit MUST train a Bahamian citizen to do their job, during the two year term of the permit… THEN they go home.
You have NO chance to get a work permit in the Bahamas. My wife was born there and we visit her family twice a year. We were last there in March of 2014.

There are no visas available as car salesmen.
How do you qualify? You can't just work in a foreign country.
Car sales does not make you qualified to run a hotel. Hotels don't hire management on a temporary basis, it costs too much training you. You are basically unskilled labour, something the islands don't lack for. You need to see if you qualify for a work visa first, then start looking for a job.
Start swimming now I guess?
