How come skyline can't be made in usa under infinity?
I mean there's an Honda nsx under acura nsx in the us. There's Honda Euro that is not avaible in the us but they have an acura tsx replacement for it. Is it only a thing under honda and acura that can make it? I mean why couldn't infinity have made a us version of the r34 r33 r32 skyline GTR in the us?
Added (1). I know the GTR doesn't pass the US law that is why I'm asking why can't infinity make it like Honda and acura does with the nsx/ the honda euro/acura tsx
The name, brand, does not really matter. They can re-name it any other name, any other Badge, but it won't be sold in the US, unless it meets the American safety and emissions standards.
There are many other Honda, Nissan and Toyota, and other European models that are not sold in the USA because of strict standards. You can have them imported, but you won't be able to register them and drive them legally until you have them modified to meet specifications for your state.
To sell a car in the US, the car has to pass safety & pollution inspection, which are the toughest in the world. The manufacture has to pay for all of these tests, up to & including destroying a car or two in crash tests. This car testing can run into a million bucks, & any major change in the car, say you have the same car body but with two different engines available, has to be separately tested. The car maker looks at how many cars he can expect to sell & he has to amortize these testing costs over that many cars. If marketing says that the car will be too expensive after you add the testing expenses, he may decide to not go for the testing & leave the US market alone.
I believe Nissan didn't do it because they didn't want to sell a dumbed down version in the US. At the times those models were being sold Nissan was offering other sports cars. Even some of the models offered here in the US weren't the top of the line models that were offered elsewhere (280, 240, Altima & others). In short, If they couldn't offer their best car at its best then why offer it at all.
Honda actually didn't offer there top of the line versions for a lot of cars either. No crx sir or si (their version), civic sir. Accord type r, or nsx r to name a few.
Living in the past 15 year old Skylines were not intended for USA market. Now we have the 2009 and newer GT-R. Infiniti is Nissan luxury division and the New GT-R was just a little clunky and loud to be sold as a luxury car.
I don't think it is they can't, the GTR just doesn't pass USA emissions & safety standards.
I find there are many cars, which come with different engines in different nations, I assume that this is to pass each that nations standards.
If you have like a spare 100,000 USD for a GTR then you can easily drop another 10,000 - 20,000 to import and mod a GTR to be USA emissions & street legal. Also like California has stricter emissions than the rest of America too.
- Where can I find deatils of Honda SH 125 scooters made in 2012? I'm looking to buy a 2012 Honda SH125. The thing is I've seen a few variations of the SH125. SH125 / SH125i / SH Mode Were all of these being made in 2012? I think the Mode came in in 2014. Also what is the difference between each of them? It would be great if someone could point me in the direction of some concrete specs about each model.
- What are some cars like the Nissan Skyline? I like the 98 coupe model, but they're impossible to get where I live. I've already had a late 90's Honda Integra but someone who I was letting drive it crashed it. I'm looking for another car like the Honda or something pretty like the Nissan 90's coupe models.
- Can a 2016 Honda crf 230 be registered and made street legal? My daughter is looking to buy a 2016 or 2017 Honda crf 230 enduro motorcycle. She was told she has to buy at least a crf 250 or higher to make have it street legal. She wants it mainly for off road use, but would like to it street legal and registered so she could legally drive it on the street when needed. The dealer told her that she would have to buy the crf 250 or larger to have it street legal. Is that correct?
- If I made a few mods to the frame of a 1972 Honda z50, can I classify it as a moped? The 1972 honda z50 came with a vin. So it had to be street legal. In Michigan the engine has to be under 100cc, automatic engine and not go over 30 mph to be a moped. I have seen some mods that people have done to the frame but I just wanted to make sure
