Is a honda xl 500r too big for a 170lb woman to kick over?
Depends on fitness of the person and abilities physically. In most cases females can do almost as much as men. The female would need to try it to see.
I'm 5'4" i know it's a big bike for me but i kind of love it. And sorry i meant 600r
If you learn to use the compression release properly, no it's not.
It also has a lot to do with how well the bike is tuned. If tuned well it will start much easier, with fewer kicks.
As ryde on says it si more of a "knack " than pure power. If you can't start the bike you could always bump it
Using the compression release, ease the piston just past TDC (Top Dead Centre, you will feel it becomes slightly easier to move), release the kick start to the top position return the compression release, take a deep breath and, with no throttle, give it a good, long, smooth kick.
It will either start, break your ankle, propel you over the bike or stutter a little before starting fine on the next kick. I have known people who could start big singles just by hand, it is all a question of technique (not one that I ever mastered).
As a tip always wear a pair of big heavy boots.
I hate those single pot bikes and I'm a 6 foot man! However if you know their trick you will have no problem starting them, providing there's no mechanical problem. You have to position the piston at top dead center and then a tad further past that. Now kive it a good kick and get that leg out of the way in case there's a kick back.
- My wife's but is too big for the backseat of of my Honda Rebel 250? How to make a bigger backseat? My wife finds the backseat of my 2006 Rebel uncomfortably small. I've searched the internet to see if they make a larger option, but I haven't found anything. Is there a larger backseat I can buy? I'm considering building my own. I have foam and vinyl, but I need to think of a material to make a sturdy, seat-shaped frame piece that I could attach the vinyl to. Any ideas?

- My Honda Eterno scooter does not start with a kick? My Honda Eterno scooter is 10 yrs in usage with no problems. Now a days sometimes it does not start with the kick. The kick seems to be loose, as if when you try to kick the scooter by pressing the clutch. This is an intermittent problem. But when it happens in the middle of the road, it causes a lot of inconvenience.
