Is it socially unacceptable for a working class person to drive a super nice car?

Is it socially unacceptable for a working class person to drive something like a used Mercedes Benz S550 or BMW M6? Or pretty much a car that's theoretically "better" than their bosses or supervisor?

I mean cars that were once $100,000, now $25,000. They still look super nice, but aren't worth it's original value. Technically it's depreciated so much that it's something a "working class" person can afford, but then again its still a $100k car.

If you were a boss and one of your employees showed up say in a 2008 BMW M6(and you had something newer and more expensive, but not as "cool"), would it make you seem them differently? Say this was a good employee that does what they're told and they never slack off.

Added (1). Reason I ask is because a relative told me that if you ever work for some one and you want to buy a car, stick with the normal stuff like Chevy, Toyota, Honda etc. And if you want a little luxury get at most a premium brand like Buick, Acura, Volvo. No BMWs, Audis etc.

Is that just BS?

Added (2). Also, assume you work an office job or something that pays decent($40k a year).

I'm sure it's never "socially unacceptable"

if you drive a car that appears beyond your means to afford than a lot of people will get the impression that you're kind of stupid, but that's not really the same thing

  • What do you guys think about the 2015 Mercedes CLA-Class? Personally I think that it has the price tag of a Honda and the maintenance costs of a Mercedes. But what do you think?
  • Take a nice car to road test? I have my road test in 3 days and I have been practicing on 3 cars. My moms Honda Pilot, my car(hyundai Genesis), and my dads 2013 Maserati. I'm comfortable with all 3 of them. Should I take my dads maserati on the road test to get the instructor more lenient because it is a nice car or should I take a normal car?
  • Recommend sports bike for 5 foot 3 inch tall person? I will be 16 years of age soon, and currently race with a crf100 (although it is much too small at this point haha) and out and about I drive a crf230l with no trouble. I'm 5'3" and weigh 135lbs. I'm looking into getting a sports bike, and am considering a ninja 300, or a honda cb500f. The ninja 300 seems ideal, but I worry it is too small, and won't do much more than 130kmph. What would you recommend?
  • Are 2012/2013 Mercedes Benz C-Class good cars? So i'm 17 and i've had a 2000 honda civic since i was 15 1/2. It was my starter car and my parents think i'm ready for my real car now. Weve been looking at cars and a benz was not a forst choice but i drove a 2013 c350 and i fell in love but i keep hearing its not reliable. But i can't find any honest reviews on them. So if you have a c class from this year can you please tell me about yours? Is ot reliable? Expensive to fix? What problems have you had?
