Looking to buy a 2002 Nissan Altima is reliable?
This would be my first car I'm buying I've been saving up for a while so I went to a Honda dealership and they had the 2002 Altima for $5995 it comes with a 12,000 mile warranty and 2 years free service, and a free tire rotation it has 98k miles on it I want to know is this a good deal or should I avoid it?
Try getting a car below 50k miles. You never know what could happen once you drive off the lot in car with nearly 100k miles.
You're paying $1,000 - $1,500 too much for that car.
For $6K, you should be able to get a more recent car than 14 years of age, if you widen out your search in terms of models.
It sounds overpriced to me.
And the warranty is of little value in the real world but you won't find that out until later. The free service also has strings attached I would wager.
Tire rotation is $10, its no big freebie. They just want to get you in to sell you other service.
Would look for a similar car from a private party. Also, its 14 years old so you can't count on the mileage being correct. They are exempt after 10 years which almost encourages people to roll them back.
The Nissan has a ton of potential. However, the dealership is listing the Altima way over it's current market value. A 2002 top of the line trim level Altima in near perfect shape with 98k miles only has the current market value of approximately $4,500 from a dealership. You can run the numbers yourself.

All I can help is to give you a checklist to ensure that you're getting a reliable car.
- I just bought a 2011 Nissan Altima 2.5s with 160,000 miles on it? I just bought this car two days ago, it looks and drives perfect. I know that is a lot of miles but as long as the rental company kept up with maintenance it should have many more miles on it. Can I put another 50k-100k more miles on it in the future? Are Nissan Altima's up to par with Honda/Toyota?
- How reliable is 2003 Nissan Altima? I would like to know how reliable they are dince i've seen them reached 250000 miles and i like how the car look. And please don't say i should go to honda and Toyota i did and i don't like the timing belt it cost too much to replace and not expecting to spend close to a grand within a week or so not in my budget.
- Nissan Altima (2015) vs Toyota Camry (2014.5) vs Nissan Sentra (2015). Which is best ride on the market now? I'm looking to buy a new car 0.0% financing and these are the only companies that offer 0.0% financing on new and old cars. ( i know honda civic is great but they offer 0.9% finance). I want a car that is a smooth ride, fuel effecient and car that will last me a long time. Overall, a good car. These are my top three cars NISSAN ALTIMA, TOYOTA CAMRY and NISSAN SENTRA? which one do you guys think is the best? i'm open to suggestions…
- Can a 2015 honda civic keep up with a nissan altima? Lets say both drivers where two on the freeway, one guy driving a 2015 honda civic and the other one driving a 1998 altima. The driver of the 1998 altima is speeding around 100-105 mph @3500 rpms only. My question is could a honda civic keep up with the old altimas performance? I'm asking bc since the civic isn't in the same class as the altima, i'm wondering how the new civic would do aganisnt the old altima. The altima itself in great mechanical condtion.
