1987 honda hurricane firing but not running?

Was riding it today going 55 started dogging on me then died, carburetors? Just bought the bike so don't know too much

Sounds like you ran out of gas.

Well, without a lot more detail I can only give you the basic 3 things to check, if you have all 3 your bike will start ( maybe not run smooth if it needs a tune up or some adjustments but it will run )

you need 3 things for an engine to run so check all 3 to narrow down the issue then you just need to find what is wrong

1. Spark, check that you have good spark in all cylinders - simply remove spark plugs on at a time and with the plug in the cable touch it close to the engine block and turn over the engine
if you see good spark then that's not the problem and you can check the color of the spark plug end to see if its running rich ( dark and wet ) , lean ( dry and brownish ) or if there's an oil leak or in a two stroke too much oil in the gas ( oil on the plug ) , are the plug wires in good condition? Are the points good ( or is the electronic ignition good? Distributor cap and rotor good?
2. Fuel. Is there gas in the tank? Were the plugs wet showing they were getting gas, is the fuel filter good? Fuel lines connected? Carb adjusted well to get good fuel and air mix?
3 compression - you can use a compression tester or while the plugs were out checking for spark try to hold your thumb over the plug hole while you turn it over, if you can't it has compression - and timing, if it has spark gas and compression and will not start the timing is probably off so it could be the timing chain or more likely you just need to loosen the distributor and adjust it
