Buying a used motorcycle with no title in Ontario, Canada?

So I've been looking for a project bike recently, and I've come across one that I'm very interested in. Its a 1983 honda magna 500 and they guy is selling it for $150. BUT he doesn't have ownership… Is there any way that I could get ownership for the bike if he doesn't have it? For $150 its either a steal of a price or a stolen bike. Which is why i'm hesitant. $150 isn't a big deal, but i just don't want to get into complications when i try and ride it. So I just want to know what the process is, if any, for me to get the title for the bike and if it is even worth it.

If he doesn't have ownership he can't legally sel it and you can't buy it, only the registered owner can sell you the bike and get you the title, you have no option at all of getting the title since you'df need the owner of the bikes name and that person would have to sign over the title and give you the registration
its probbaly stolen ( technically it is stolen if he doesn't own the bike )
if you want to buy it you are taking a big risk of buying stolen propery and all you could do with it is use it for parts, you'd need to buy a second bike with a title to actually use those parts

If he doesn't have a title, he doesn't own it. If he IS the titled owner, he can get a duplicate title. You can never be the titled owner of the 1983 Honda, vehicle number (unknown), but you can give him your money and take possession. If you do it, write a bill of sale with the motorcycle identifying information (year, brand, model, VIN) along with the seller's information (full name, address, phone, drivers license number) with the words "cash" and "payment in full" written on the bill. He probably won't sign such a bill of sale, which should tell you something.

You might take the VIN to your DMV or whatever it's called in Canada and have them check it.

There ARE various ways of getting a title to a motor vehicle. Ask your DMV. Also ask them if you buy pieces of a Honda and assemble it into a drivable motorcycle, can you get a title for an "assembled" motorcycle.

Good luck, eh?

p.s. I went looking and found that you have a Ministry of Transpirtation. Here is a website:

Check this page and click on "Highway Traffic Act", and maybe you can find some legislation that is directly related to your situation:
