Honda CBR 954rr as a second bike?

I previously rode and learned on a 250cc Honda rebel then later a Kawasaki Ninja 500 for a year and I believe I'm ready to upgrade. I have my eyes on this fireblade but would like the opinions of the more experienced riders out there.

Is this too big of a bike to upgrade to or should I just go a little smaller such as a cbr f4i or another 600cc or maybe a 750cc bike? And what should I expect. Thank you for your input in advance I'm open to all opinions and appreciate what you all have to say very much.

All you will notice is a bigger grin on your face! But! Please be careful, take it slow and build up your recovery skills… You will need them for your next year or two every trip you take!

I think your upgrade progression is just fine. You already know enough to respect the fireblade, so go for it! You can take the next progression in power to a 750, but I don't think i'ts necessary for you to do so. What you have to ask yourself is if you really need that power and speed. If the answer is yes, then there are no problems here. After all, you have already put in the time and learned to ride on smaller bikes. Is it time for something with serious attitude? I would say yes, but only you can say for sure. Just take it easy at first and you should be fine. Remember that the throttle of the CBR 954rr will be far more touchy than the Ninja 500, as fun as that one was.

I've had my 954 since new in 03 and wouldn't swap it for the world.
One of the benefits of the 954 is it is so light, probably as light if not lighter than the modern day 600cc but it has a lot more torque meaning it's actually easier to ride the 954 slower and at lower revs than a 600 cc with poor torque

Just be aware the 954 has a fairly steep steering angle which can make it a little unstable and twitchy but it doesn't really get out of shape too much and has a pretty linear stable power delivery so is pretty user friendly and is pretty comfortable as well compared to the modern day sportsbikes

Just realize that it is almost 100 more horsepower than your 50hp 500 twin and does not respond well to bad user inputs.

Make sure you know what you are doing.
