Honda Fury for first Motorcycle?
I'm planning on getting a motorcycle this summer. I was looking at the Honda Fury motorcycle and I instantly fell in love, would this would be a GOOD FIRST BIKE with NO EXPERIENCE. The only problem is I'm not sure I can handle all the power.
My main concern being comfortable, and practicality as first bike.
Due to my height and size (6'7", 270 lbs) I want to get a bike that would suit me the best, I'm only interested in CRUISER STYLE bikes. All knowledge and expertise is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
A
p.s. I will also wear all gear and take the MSF course.
'Too much power' is not going to be the problem. First of all, if you ride like a grown-up, you only use the power that you need. Do you drive your car with your foot on the floor all the time? Secondly, cruisers are not really hot bikes. They are made bigger for more stability, smoothness, stamina, etc. A Fury will move right along, no doubt about it, but it's not like a sport bike.
Cruisers are easier to ride because they have a lower center of gravity and a lower seat. A lot of people buy Harleys and other large cruisers as their first bike.
If it was me I think I'd start on something a little more medium-sized, like a Shadow 750. I would strongly recommend you start on a used bike, at least to learn to ride. Because you're likely to be very hard on your first bike. If you bought a used Shadow, after six months or a year you could sell it for about what you paid for it, and then go get the bike of your dreams.
I would guess your height/weight won't be a problem with either bike. But fit is entirely subjective, so you can't tell until you find one and sit on it.
I agree, I have been on the Fury, my friend had one. When we went for ride it got TONS of attention, they look like a custom chopper as you know. The power issue is not a big problem for this cruiser, mostly you'll just get big acceleration from the big V twin, not the high revs so top end is not a problem. Due to chassis dragging you won't be hitting corners too hard either, though my friend was able to ride his Fury at a very good clip through the twisties. At your size the Fury would be perfect for you, good choice.
I almost bought a Fury for my stable as well, but a Confederate Hellcat fell into my lap and took that spot, the one in my avatar. Love the look of the Fury though.
The main problem for a beginner is dropping the bike, it happens to beginners on a regular basis. You might get chipped paint, scratched chrome, replace turn signals, possibly brake levers/clutch levers, foot pegs, possibly a bent handlebar, basically anything that sticks out from the bike. A person's first bike always gets abused. The good news is the Fury doesn't have a fairing to crack.
I have driven Honda Fury motorcycles, and I wouldn't think they would be too much to handle.
Generally where you run into "too much power" scenarios, is when you go from no experience to sport bikes. Bikes that basically have the power of a car, but weigh 2000lbs less. So you can accelerate like a mofo, spin out your tires, power wheelie, etc mixed with an aggressive stance, and a kid that can't fully understand consequences?
Basically said, most of that does not apply to cruisers. As a bigger gentleman, a Fury would fit you if you asked me.
My only problem would be the $14K price.
On the other hand, you can't be safe if your are uncomfortably cramped on a small bike.
If you don't mind the costs *if* you drop it I would say go for it.
- What's a good first motorcycle? I'm looking for my first cheap, reliable motorcycle to get me into the city each day and back. I don't know much about them but I don't want anything too powerful so a 250 of some sort and preferably a japanese made bike such as yamaha and honda etc. I really like the retro/classic style bikes but I don't want it too old. Please help me out as I don't know where to even begin looking really.
- What is the most appropriate motorcycle jacket for someone who rides honda rebel as his first bike? I personally like those nylon looking jackets like revit touring types I guess as oppose to sportier looking ones but really is there a good versatile one for my situation?
- What first motorcycle do you thing I should get on my list? A Honda cbf125, Honda cbr150r, honda cbr250r, honda cbr300r, honda cbr500r, kawasaki ninja 300, or kawasaki ninja 250? I have experience on a 125cc pit bike and I have ridden 110cc dirt bikes. What do you recommend?
- Upgrading from honda nighthawk to honda fury? So I have a honda nighthawk 250 and I've been riding for 3 years so I'm comfortable riding but would a honda fury be to much more bike than I'm use too
