Honda Shadow sputters and dies?
I just bought a 95 Honda Shadow. I believe it's an ace. 1100cc. 50k miles. It has a small oil leak, so I filled it with 5w-50. Now when I start it and rev it, it will sputter. If I let off the gas it will idle fine. When I put it into gear it will die, regardless if I'm giving it gas or not. Any ideas on the issue? I'm stumped.
Disassemble the carbs, inspect for damage and thoroughly clean them.
Stall when putting into gear can be from clutch cable not adjusted, side stand safety switch or clutch switch.
Clogged Pilot Jet(s) / and or passage can cause similar problems (From personal experience). Once had a bike that would idle and start fine, but as soon as throttle was used would bog / sputter and want to die. However, make sure you didn't overfill the oil, and that your air-filter is clean and not restrictive. Usually, if not enough air flow the bike will sputter, if not enough fuel flow the bike will bog. Make sure spark plug is also good, clean and gapped correctly.
Engine needs gas to run- You open trttle- it not get gas. Start with simple- if fuel filter clogged up- no gas. Carb could be blocked with debire… Over time. I bet if you shoot gas in carb- it runs huh?
How long has it been sitting? Carb is full of old dried gas/ethanol dump seafoam in on an empty tank let it sit for a day or two and fill it up with gas. Also be careful not to overfill the gas overfilling it is just as bad as under filling it
5W50?
Probably your problem - wrong oil.
Should be 10W40.
Your clutch runs in the engine oil.
- Dropped motorcycle - engine sputters then stops. Later on starts, but stops again? I dropped my 2000 Honda Nighthawk CB750 on its right, picked it up in It was riding fine right after, then about 10 minutes later it sputtered and stopped while riding. Looked like the battery and starter motor were fine, engine just couldn't turn over. About 10 minutes later it started, and I rode for a couple miles. A few hours later I rode it again, but it only lasted about 2 miles before stopping again. I waited a few hours after that it started again. Does anybody have suggestions?
- 03 Shadow Sputters and Dies? I have an '03 Honda Shadow Spirit that began stalling on me. It was working fine, and then i took it for a ride and it sputtered and died on me while riding. We managed to get it home by keeping the throttle up kind of high. Is this a clogged fuel filter issue? Also, when we opened it up, it looked like there were 2 fuel filters. Has anyone heard of 2 filters on these bikes? Any help would be appreciated. I need to sell the bike.
- I have 1998 honda civic that dies after running for 6minutes when it is cool outside What could be wrong? 1998 Honda civic dies after running for 6 minutes when it is 50 degrees or colder out. It will start right back up after waiting 60 seconds and run just fine for rest of the day. Looking for clues as to what can be wrong
- 2000 Honda Civic randomly dies? My 2000 Honda Civic dies while driving. There's no warning - no shudder or stalling, it just randomly dies. At idle, at low speeds and even while on the highway. When it happens, none of the dash lights work (flashers, gear indicator, nothing) and you have to put it in neutral to restart. It takes several times to restart and usually you have to push on the gas pedal while turning the key. Any ideas? No codes. Replaced broken distributor cap about a month ago.
