I want to sell my 1990 Honda CBR 600. What do you think I should ask for it?
I want to sell my 1990 Honda CBR 600 with about 23000 miles on it. It needs some cosmetic work and a new battery. It's missing the two large side fairings and the left mirror. It's been sitting idle for the last year and a half. It ran great when I owned it. I don't really want to put the money into it to get it started, but I don't think anyone will buy it with that being a startable. I really think all it needs is a little lube, some love, and a new battery. I'm just kinda strapped for cash and am unsure what I should say in an add or do to it in order to sell it. Let me know what you think I should do to make get it going and what kinda price I should ask. I hate have to sell it, but I need the cash and it won't be an option for me to drive it soon. Thanks for your help
It's worth whatever someone will pay for it.
It's hard to say without seeing it in person, but I rarely offer more than $500 for a bike that isn't running. Based on your description, I would be comfortable at more like $350. It's just hard to offer more than that without knowing what might be preventing it from starting.
Any bike that can be ridden home is worth $500-$700 minimum to me though. I think it would be worth your money to replace the battery, run some carb cleaner through it, and try to get it started. You could ask $1200 then, and hope someone will give $1,000 even. The problem with old bikes is that the rubber parts dry out and rot. If I buy that from you for $500, I'm probably putting another $1,000 into it to get things in "good" condition.
If you have the time, you would probably get the most cash by parting it out, but that is a huge hassle.
