Why does my motorcycle stall out?

I have a 2001 Yamaha 650cc classic v star, it has no trouble going from neutral to first and taking off but when I'm coming to a stop in first gear the bike dies out. I've taken the MSF course and I know to ease off the throttle, pull in the clutch all the way and slowly apply both brakes when stopping. I did this with the 250 Honda rebels that we practiced on in the MSF course and it never stalled out in first gear at a stop. Does the larger 650cc need to be in neutral when coming to a stop? If not then why else/what could I be doing wrong to make my bike stall?

Adjust the clutch a bit, helps sometimes, you might want to drain your gearbox and replace oil.

Your idle may be set to low.

Check your idle speed and adjust your clutch for correct freeplay.

Is the bike idle at the correct ram's when you are stopped. Also change out the fuel filter. It could be partially plugged.

  • Why does my motorcycle cut off at an intersection? I recently bought a 93 honda nighthawk cb250 and sometimes when I'm coming to a stop and I'm downshifting and I get to first gear and make the stop the engine kinda cuts out i don't know what I'm doing wrong if anything, is it the choke? Am I not supposed to downshift before stopping? This is my first bike and I need some help.
  • Why does my atv run for 10 minutes then stall and die? Just put a brand new carburetor on my 2006 Honda trx. It will crank on the first try no problem. After riding it and it getting hot the bike dies? Why is this?
  • What kind of motorcycle should i start out with? I'm 6'3 245 pounds i have little experience with riding and I'm still rookie. I'm going to take a motorcycle safety course before i get a motorcycle. I'm considering buying by friend's 04 honda cbr 600 f4i is that an okay bike for me to start with considering my size and all. I have already rode that bike and i think it is okay but i'm not experienced enough to tell.
  • How to keep my motorcycle clutch from burning out? I bought a Honda CBR500R for my first bike. I was riding over the bridge and I hit the clutch to help me get over it. I ended up getting more revs than acceleration after that. I called Cycle Center the next day and they said I had burnt out my clutch because I used it too much. Now it's going to take a week before they order the parts. I feel like riding the clutch is a habit. But I HAVE to use it to get out of parking. Any help?
