Would a Honda Valkyrie make a good first bike?

It would be an AWESOME first bike. But not an appropriate first bike.

Yes and a semi-tracker trailer would make a great first vehicle.
Start off with some bike that is a bit lighter weight to get used to riding first than think about it.

Would you want to see your kid on one? Best to start out on a small bike and learn on something that you can manhandle

They are big, heavy, and get relatively lousy gas mileage. They can also be hard to find as Honda discontinued making them 16 years ago. Not the ideal starter bike for someone.

First bike? Hell no. Learn how to ride first. I was there once trying to choose either a Kawasaki Bushmaster or Avenger. The Avernger had me hanging on like a flag on a pole. That was like riding a bullet. The Bushmaster is what I rode home on and learned street and motocross on. I knew when I was ready for something bigger. Really owning any motorcycle, you should also be a good mechanic to keep it in shape- or know when it must go to the shop.

Depends. What is your experience? Would this be first street bike, and you rode 450 dirt bikes, recently? Would it be a good:"first bike" after ten years hiatus from riding, and that was a Gold wing?

Yes.

If you are 16 Yo whose feet can't touch the ground on it, and no experience other than a bicycle; No. Awesome but not Appropriate, I quote. In this case, a Rebel 250 or 440. Work your way up.
Take an MSF course.

There were none when I started on a Honda 50 , after a moped, at 24. After 20 or so years of small to intermediates ( including a Lovely '78 Bonney 750 I now regret selling, but, had rent to pay), I now ride an 88" Harley at 62.

A Honda Valkyrie will make a good first bike -- for an IDIOT! Anyone that asks IS an idiot.

No, I think you might be happier with a Boss Hoss.
