03 honda pilot GRV valve sensor needs to be replaced and now VITM-4 light just went on.is it safe to drive?

Do I need to tow it to Honda or can I drive it. Honda is a mile away from home. Can I drive short distances without hurting engine?

light for GRV valve sensor has been on for two weeks and the VITM-4 light has just went on.

Thanks for providing the vehicle information, most people don't, then they want you to diagnose an engine performance problem! Lol

I think that you may have misspelled a couple of you abbreviations.

I believe you meant to say the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) Valve, this is a common issue on the first generation Pilot (2003-2008) with the 3.5L SOHC (J35A4) engine.

This is usually accompanied by code (s)
P1491= EGR Valve Lift Sensor Insufficient Flow Detected
P0401= EGR System Insufficient Flow Detected.
There's a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) for this issue and it is NOT due to a "Bad" EGR valve or it's position sensor, it is the EGR passages inside the intake plenum are clogged!

The other thing is the VTM-4 light (Variable Torque Management) This is a warning light for the Rear Differential Torque Management system and is a direct reaction of the EGR code.
You can disregard this light and when the EGR system is repaired, the light will not come on anymore!

NOTE: Yes the vehicle is fine to drive this is a problem with the "Auxiliary Emission System" and will NOT cause any damage to the vehicle.

Thank you so much! From the looks of this it is covered under a defect warranty that will not cost me anything!
Honda wanted $450 bucks to replace the sensor! I knew I needed to wait to find a better/cheaper solution.
SO grateful for this information.
I will take the recall into the Honda dealer.
I can only HOPE that they will still honor it since I have
240,000 miles on my Pilot.
