Are me and my family paying too much for auto insurance?

Our total every 6 months is $2,055. I'm 20 years old and drive a 2015 Silverado LTZ V8 crew cab truck and my mom drives a honda pilot 2015. We're paying about $343 a month on car insurance is that too high for a 20 year old and a 46 year old?

Wow. Do either of you have tickets? Accidents? If not, I'd be shopping around to different insurance companies. Seems like you should be able to do better than that.

Your question can't be answered by anyone here.
The only way to know is to get other quotes

Shop around like we all have to.

There's no way anyone can tell you. Only YOU know your full circumstances. Address and occupation make a big difference to auto insurance costs. It isn't just age and car.
The only thing I can tell you definitely is that a 20 year old driving a V8 crew cab sure doesn't help.

Maybe, maybe (not).

Insurance is based on zip code, (where you live/vehicle parked). They will take anywhere from 3 to 5 years of (past) tickets and/or accidents. Age, in regards to how (many) years driving (experience). If either one of you has (bad) credit, will charge more, if good credit then less.

Since both are a 2015, am "guessing" that both are financed, thus would be required to have collision/comprehensive till (each) vehicle is paid off to protect the lender plus the mandatory liability required in the state where you live.

Since both vehicles insured with State Farm, then should get a 10% multi policy discount. What about your deductibles, if higher, less, or a lower deductible will cost more. Do you have uninsured motorist, or medical payment coverage and/or PIP?

Now with State Farm, they can only give you State Farm's prices which may or not be lower. I have an broker that I use for my homeowners, auto, umbrella and health insurance, thus over the years, she can check about 10 different companies that she is licensed with to find the best/lowest cost to insure all of them for me.

You could call up Allstate, which is just like State Farm who have your own agents. You want a person to input the information of what you have into their system to get a decent accurate quote with them to compare. Over the years, have had about 5 different companies, since many times have a good price, but even if you are a good risk, then (IF) the insurance pays out (too) many claims in 1 year, then (all) policyholders pay more to cover the next year (expected) claims.

The only thing you can do is shop other companies to see what rates they quote.

Seems about right to me.
Insurance companies always charge HUGE premiums for young drivers. Statistics show that drivers under 25 are most likely to have accidents. Add to that the vehicle you are driving and that gives the premium. They will look at that truck and think "How much damage is he gonna cause if he hits another vehicle with that". Remember your insurance pays for damage you cause.
A friend of mine here in the UK wanted to insure his 7 seat people carrier for his 22yr old son to drive. At 50yrs old he was paying around £400 per year. To add his son would increase the premium to £12,000 per year. Basically the insurance company were saying "**** off!" Their reasoning was that with the potential for him to kill or seriously injure 7 occupants with subsequent financial damages claims, meant they didn't want to insure him.
You are probably a great driver with a real sense of responsibility but the insurance companies tar you all with the same brush.
If you want to reduce your premium trade in your truck and buy a sensible small family saloon with a low power engine…
But you don't want that right?

I don't know, are you? It seems high to me, but I have no idea of your circumstances.

Maybe. Maybe not.

Whether it is or not depends on your coverage type, set deductibles, the driving history of the motorist, and where on this big blue ball you reside.

You drive a $40k truck and are complaining about insurance lol. Damn rich boy.

  • Inexpensive Auto Insurance NJ? I'm looking for car insurance that is cheaper for a 95 Honda. I currently use metromioe which costs me the most 90$ a month but they only cover 96 and up so I need a change. I've had Allstate and progressive and they were very expensive. But that is also due to the fact of my driving history. Although the accident was deemed not my fault I know it does still raise my rate. Any suggestions?
