What auto shops do a whole transmission change from auto to manual in Southern Cali?
Trying to change my 97 Honda Civic hatchback transmission from auto to manual and want to know any trust worthy places with quality work here in Southern California preferably in the Inland Empire area. Please and thank you
You would be a whole lot better of and it would be much cheaper to sell your vehicle and buy one with a manual transmission.
Transmission man here. Find the Honda with the manual. Between shop labor at around 90 dollars an hour and finding a complete junk car to get parts from you're a heck of a lot cheaper buying another car. We make money on quick turn around's not tying up a lift while we do this project
Why would you spend 5 grand on a car that's worth 1500?
This would only make sense if the automatic is shot and you need to spend good money on a transmission.
If you're doing this in order to try and save gas, it's a waste, as today, there's very little and very often NO savings over an automatic.
If you're just doing it for the fun of it, great, but keep in mind, if you sell the car, the value will be the same. In other words, the money you spent is down the toilet.
First best answer to bo. Everybody is right on the money about it being far too expensive (and in California the smog requirements are a minor complication) but he points out in addition why it would be an unpopular and expensive thing to do for a shop.
Just buy the car you really want and sell the one you don't.
Where do you plan on getting the computer and wiring harness for the the manual transmission. Cuz you can't use your existing computer with a manual transmission, and it's illegal for a shop to reprogram yours
- Driving to Cali from AZ good idea with my car? Is it good to take a Honda Pilot 07 400 miles and back from Az to Cali if it has 119,000 miles on it, patched tire, 9 month battery and alternator, fresh oil change, and timing belt? I'm scared it won't make it
- Transmission going out on friend's 2004 Impala. Is it possible to install a manual transmission taken from a 1992 Honda Civic in this car? Not worth replacing trans on a car this old, but the engine and everything else are still perfect. My friend was able to get a free manual trans from a 1992 Honda Civic. But i'm not sure whether or not you can use a trans from a different vehicle
- How to know my transmission could be to change? (manual)? Hi, i drive a honda civic 2006, i know my clutch is to change since i can hardly accelerate on any type of slope, small like big ones when going up a mountain. I tried going up a mountain and i rev up to red line and still took 10 sec to start going up and the 1st and 2nd gear are becoming hard to go in. But how do i know if one day i have to switch the transmission? Is there a way or i'm talking about the same thing and i'm just such a noob anyway thanks for the help
- How much would it take to replace an auto transmission to manual in a '93 honda civic? If it's not worth the time then I'm sure there's a way to make an automatic have a race like look. Such as new bumpers tail lights/headlights that will give it a solid look. Any sites or suggestions?
