Saturn vue a/c not working?

I have a 2005 saturn vue with the honda 3.5l
The ac used to work then it started blowing hot air. If rpm's were high then it would blow cold air.

I took it to a shop, the checked the pressure while running (low side I believe) which read about 60-65. And even higher when turned off.
They said it had too much pressure and let some out (to about 35 I think)

Now it only blows hot air no matter the rpm's.
Also, when I turn the ac on I can hear a hissing sound now coming down from my air controls (but not with ac off)

The ac clutch IS engaging. But it stays engaged as long as the ac is on, it does NOT cycle on/ off, it stays on constantly.

Anyone have some ideas I can check befor wasting my money on another place?

So are you saying you overcharged your AC system before you took it to "a shop"? AC systems will leak down over the years, especially if people don't run them in the Winter to help distribute the oil in the system. Seals dry and shrink causing slow leaks. That's why there are so many DIY 134a canisters available. If the expansion valve is not clogged with dirt, you're symptoms would call for more 134a… NOT less. Nice bozo you went to!

What about the high side figure. Where did you go walmart? Getting higher when turned off is NORMAL. That hissing sounds like a vacuum leak. Saturn may be have been using vac controls yet in 05. Who knows? This could be part of your problem. 60-65 is not low enough.( Let some out? Not even legal. )

  • Is this Saturn S Series a good buy? It's a late 90's or early 2000's with 171k miles on it. It's clean and I don't hear, see, or feel anything mechanically wrong with it. I do know a lot about Honda's but I'm clueless on Saturns. They want $1500 cash for it at the car dealership. Is it worth it?
