Scooter smells of raw gas after shutdown?

Have checked for leaks, found none. Carb is not draining/overflowing. No fuel in exhaust. No drop in fuel consumption (over 80 mpg). Scooter runs fine, no hesitation, no loss of power. Have changed the oil and it is normal. 2005 Honda Vino 125. Started about a week ago.

Thoughts?

Added (1). 2005 Yamaha Vino, my bad. Plugs are ok, no fuel, tan color.

Added (2). I replaced the fuel cap, fuel lines, petcock, carb bowl gasket and air filter. I do not know which part fixed the problem but the smell is gone.

It is amazing what you can't see visually but if you take a finger of yours and swipe it over the gas tap and look at it for wetness on your finger, or onto the fuel line near the outlet nipple from the gas tank and look at finger for moisture again you will find it doing it that way. Most times it is the rubber fuel line has a slight crack and is leaking fuel into the air.
IF you have clear plastic fuel lines(or even shiny hard plastic lines) those are the wrong lines to use. Yes they were flexible when you first put them on, but gas takes something out of the flexibility and they become rock hard. They are no longer sealing as tight as they once were. You need proper neoprene rubber gas line hose. They hold onto their stretch and will not bake out and go brittle. Sometimes the fuel valve itself will leak as it has a rubber o-ring inside and it is a matter of age. Easier to replace it than to rebuild it.
You will never see gas in the exhaust. It burns in the exhaust pipe. If the filler cap leaks you can smell it when you place your nose real close. Chance are it is good. So, I would fault the fuel lines first for "THEY ARE THE WEAKEST LINK" Change that and see if you have improved the situation. It is not a big cost. The fuel tap costs more.

Or you can find it real fast by lighting a match. What ever catches on fire immediately is the leaking spot. I don't recommend that which is why I use my fingers and look at them to see if they are wet. So much safer.

Fuel cap?

There will be a small hole to prevent vacuums forming in the fuel tank, so there's always a possibility of smelling fuel, has it been particularly warm where you live?

Start and run the engine.
Remove the air box cover.
Stop the engine.
Does the smell come from the air box?
If yes, the intake valve might be leaking.
Adjust the valves and repeat the test.
If any were extremely tight or loose, the head might need a valve job.

  • My motorcycle won't start after i took off gas tank? Its a 95 honda shadow 1100. Cranks but won't start and when i turn the throttle while cranking it. The sound changes but still don't start
  • Interior of the car smells like weed? No one has ever smoked weed in my car before and I haven't either but I'm really curious on why the interior smells like weed usually. Also I have owned this car for years, it's a 2001 Honda Prelude. Why does the interior of my car smell like weed?
  • Why won't my car won't start after putting in gas? I have a 2007 civic, 80,000 miles, about a year old battery. Yesterday after I filled up the gas tank my car wouldn't start. Waited about 1 minute and it started fine. This had happened about 4 months ago (I had it checked at Honda) and they said it was okay. But today I went a short distance (15 minutes from home left the car for about 5) and my car didn't want to start. What could it be?
  • I have a 1993 Honda Civic DX that smells like pot? I don't smoke pot, there's no part in vehicle, there's no stash, the smell is coming from the engine portion not the interior. My oil is perfectly fine, Michael it is perfectly fine, my hoses and belts are fine. I need help.
