Will my car make it cross country? Can anyone who knows about cars tell me if this is a bad idea?

I want to drive to colorado to stay for a few weeks and don't want to fly it will be about.a 1300 mile journey I have a 2002 Honda oddessey tht has 242k miles on it but its been babied its whole life and has a few new parts including a new transmission its seems to drive fine I was just wondering if that seems like a stupid or risky idea to drive it that far

You should be OK but, I warn you now > If you plan to drive the car up in the mountain passes, get the cooling system pressure tested and have the brakes serviced / checked, engines overheat super fast in the mountains at high altitude and it usually ends up being catastrophic. If you plan all flat land driving through Nebraska to the east of the Rockies and Sierras, it shouldn't be an issue. If you plan to drive over the mountains, it would behoove you to get the cars engine cooling system pressure tested and have the brakes in tip top shape before leaving harbor.

Tires? Brakes? Cooling system? Probably needs a new set of Iridium spark plugs? Good spare tire & jack? Many things to do before such an endeavor. Driving through Nevada in the summer can be 115F+ and that means you need to be prepared with extra water, food, 5 gal gas can, cell phone recharge pod or extra batteries, etc.

It will make it. I make further trips in a 96 accord. Make sure your tires are up for that trip though, make sure your spare is ok too. And have the tools to swap a tire if. You should be fine.

It is fine

Sign up for triple A.

No that will be fine. Every time I go to the shop it is a 2000 mile round trip

Get the wheel bearings checked and be sure the air cleaner doesn't need replacement.
Bad wheel bearings are the #1 thing I have seen screw people on a long trip.

If you check the liquids and the tires, I have no doubt that your Honda will make it all the way there and back and never notice the distance.

There's a very good chance if you drive it sensibly that it should do the trip without trouble. Maybe have your mechanic check it out especially belts and hoses as driving at higher speed may destroy any older or cracked rubber ware. Maybe get auto club membership if you don't already have it to guarantee a mechanic will come to you if your car breaks down in a remote spot. Likely a good country drive will clean a bit of carbon out of the engine and you will find that after a while it will have better pick up and run more economically. Cars only driven in cities should be given a drive in the country once on a while to clean them out. Don't be surprised if it seems to struggle for the first 50 miles to get up to highway speed as it needs a bit of a run to clean out the slow carbonizing effects of city driving.

In the hands of someone as clueless about cars as you, it wouldn't be a good idea.

1300 round trip? Not a big worry.

  • Would it be, a bad idea for me to try and fix a blown head gasket? Its for a honda. Stock d16 aftermarket rims and is 1500 with a blown head gasket. My dad is the best honda mechanic in my town. He would be guiding me through it. Also the car had 137k miles and good paint. How much would it be worth if it was fixed?
  • Honda Shadow Spirit 750 Across Country, Can it make it? I'm planning on taking my Honda Shadow 750 across the US for about a month, maybe even more. Making stops, camping, all that stuff. I changed my sprocket to a 38t and I just wanted to make sure it can make it that length of time and distance without problems. It has about 18,000 miles on it and I will be getting it detailed before the trip. Any advice would be great.
  • Is there a hole in the firewall for my 92 prelude where I can cross an 8 gauge wire? I have a 1992 Honda Prelude and I'm installing my subs, but I can't find the hole in my firewall to run the power cord to the amp. I've looked but can't find it.
  • Is buying a 12 year old car a bad idea? So I have 4 thousand dollars saved up and found a 07 Honda for sale with 145,000 miles. Should I buy or put my money into something newer? ok I was wanting to buy a car and not have a monthly payment but I don't want to waste my money. It took me a year and a half to save this
