Wrecked car that I still owe with liability insurance?

I wrecked my car which I still owed about 14k. I only had liability insurance so they won't pay for it. I wasn't told that I need full coverage on a financed car, I've driven like that for more than a year. Now I don't want to pay for wrecked car so I got a brand new car with Honda being the bank financing it. How will my credit be if I let them repo car but at the same time make payments with a good bank? Also can I sell the engine on the wrecked car or will I legally get in trouble?

It's correct that w/a financed vehicle, full insurance coverage is mandatory; as far as the wrecked vehicle: contact the finance company and tell them you want to voluntarily have the vehicle reposessed; the vehicle will be sold @ auction, then you will still owe the balance of that loan… And no - you can't remove any part of the vehicle to be repo'ed!

The finance company doesn't want a wrecked car. The finance company is going to come after you for the balance of the loan. So you went ahead and financed another car. Now you owe for 2 cars. You'd better start looking for a second (and maybe third) job. You're going to be paying dearly for your ignorance.

  • Selling a financed car & release of liability? I'm selling a financed vehicle and we're doing a bill of sale and i will user the buyers cash to mail in to Honda for the pay off amount. The buyer will be taking the car until I get the title, but the car will already be paid off with a cashiers check from the buyer( i will be present with buyer when getting check) so my question is do i fill the release of liability when he takes the vehicle with bill of sale? Or when i get the title and send him the title?
  • Car insurance compared to small truck insurance? I have a Honda Fit right now, but am interested in buying a new small four-wheel drive truck. How do insurance rates generally compare (in Ontario) between a subcompact car and a small truck?
