1990 Honda accord won't start?
Ok so my car has a new fuel pump, a new main relay, a new sending unit, a new egr valve and I just had the head gasket done and I had it re timed after it wouldn t start the first time. For some reason the fuelpump won't come on and there's no spark any ideas as to why?
Whack the fuel pump and see if it comes to life. I believe it is an exterior pump. Check the fuel pump fuse for continuity and as well for corrosion on the ends. You should always hear the buzz of your fuel pump when you first key up. So if you hear that then the pump is working. I think when you fix the pump the ignition will work again.
Hi yes several cars are nowadays designed to last 8 years or 100k miles. Beyond which they become money pit's. So as this one is now 1990 vintage this is to be expected.
so it needs diagnostics at a Honda dealer to discover it's latest problem. Yes it is expensive that is why maybe it is time to stop wasting your hard earned cash on such an old car.
Check for voltage at the pump. If none then look at the connector there and trace back to the relay til you find where the voltage is dropping out. You won't get spark without the pump on.
Sounds like a bad ignition switch or wiring issue or blown fuse. Does the main relay and pump relay make a clicking noise when you turn on key? If not, they are not getting proper power.
You should first check for any blown fuses for the main relay… There are two of them… One is a 15 amp… Fuse 2 location… And one is a 10 amp… Fuse 28 location. The 15 amp circuit powers up the main relay and then the pump relay when ignition is turned on via a black/yellow wire. The ignition coil is also powered up via a black/yellow wire from the relay under dash coming from the ignition switch. Test that black/yellow tracer wire for power as well at ignition switch… And test/check relay.
If the wire is not getting power, then possibly the ignition switch is bad or the main fuse for the switch is blown. Do all other accessories powered via ignition switch work like radio, wipers, etc?
You may need to trace back through the circuits/relays to see where power is not getting through for the pump or ignition… Or a bad ground connection as well.

Richard D is wrong the fuel pump is inside the fuel tank. I can't understand why you have done all the work on the engine to start with.
One thing that will cause the failure to start is the ignition model this is located in the distributor. My wife's car just cut out and would not start. In the fuse box under the bonnet/hood check the 50 amp fuse/relay. You could also use a jump wire on the diagnostic socket which is under the glove box it has 3 contacts jump number 1 and 3 terminal turn on the ignition do not start the engine and observe if the engine warning light flashes on and off, if it does go to the fuse box in the passing er side and pull out the back up / radio fuse for 10 seconds this will clear the fault code on the ecu, and may cure the problem. Hope this helps
- My 1983 Honda nighthawk 650 won't start with the electric start? I recently replaced the ignition coils because the old ones were getting heat soaked and the bike would die, however now the bike won't start with the electric start it turns over fin and the starter sounds fine but it won't start occasionally it ll start when it's cold or try to but I've been having to bump start it in order to ride it. So what's making it do this? Could it be the kill switch? Or something else?
- I have a Honda HRX217 push mower. Backfired when trying to start it, now it won't start? It was running, then I shut it off to open and close a gate, and when I went to start it again there was a really loud backfire and now it won't start. It will sound like it's almost about to start but not. Then get progressively weaker each pull. I changed the spark plug and cleaned the air filter. Any ideas?
- I have a Honda Harmony HRB215 K4 SDA that won't pull start but if I take off the recoil and drill start it, it runs perfect? I have a Honda Harmony HRB215 K4 SDA that won't pull start but if I take off the recoil and drill start it, it runs perfect. I did a compressin test, the pull start only gets the mower to 60psi but the drill gets the mower to 150psi. This mower does have a decompression vale where the ehaust opest about 1/8 of the way. I tore the ead off and checked and cleaned the valves. They don't stick open. Could there be an issue with the decompression valve? Or would it be the piston rings?
- How come my atv won't electric start but will crank if I push start it? 2006 Honda trx. Doesn't have a pull rope only electric start. The starter motor turns over the engine but just won't start but I'll push it down the yard with it in gear and it will fire right up. I'm so confused by this.
