Am i able to put a passive subwoofer in my car without anything else?

I just picked up a subwoofer from goodwill for $5 (Samsung PSWS610E) and was wondering if there's a way to connect it to my car s sterio system? I have a 2001 Honda Accord if that makes a difference. I think i saw that i would need an external amplifier, is that true or can i just hook it up straight to the car s sterio system?

Without anything else? Sure, but it won't do anything. You'll at least need speaker wire. Whether you can use it depends on what the power rating and impedance of the subwoofer is. Most of them require an amplifier. Even if it doesn't need an amp it would need an electronic crossover so it doesn't receive the higher frequency signals, otherwise it will sound terrible. That particular sub is made for use in home audio systems not in a car, by the way. While you could use it in a car you will need to find out the specs on it so you can figure out how to integrate it properly.

I would say yes you need some type of amp, only exception is if your vehicle already has a subwoofer and you just want to replace it. Or if you really wanted to you could take out your rear speakers and us the connections for small subwoofers instead, but as the other person said, you will need a crossover.
