Is 90 k miles too much for a used car?
I'm thinking about buying a 2005 honda accord for $1,800. But it has 90 k miles on it. I was wondering if this would be a good buy. I would only be using it to go to school and work around town, normal use
Mileage means very little. Price and condition determine if it's a good buy. 50K could be too much if the car was abused. 100K could be barely broken in if the car was babied.
Would have to see it, hear it and ask about the background before answering this.
90K for a 10 year old vehicle is below average. The average US driver would have accumulated around 130K miles in 10 years.
As mentioned by Howard, what the odometer reads only tells a partial story. You should also include if this Accord is the 2.4L I4 or the 3.0L V6, or even the hybrid model as well as which transmission it has.
But, at least around my area, a 10 year old Accord, with below average mileage, retains its value better and would be worth more than $1,800 if it is in good condition ( average asking price around me is $5000-$6000 ). Either this seller doesn't know what this car is potentially worth or this vehicle has a lot of problems. A 3rd possibility is that it is stolen or it is an online scam ( the car doesn't really exist for sale ).
A Honda Accord in good shape with good continued maintenance should go 200,000 miles. At 1800 bucks, it's either the deal of the century or there's something wrong with the car. Have the car checked out by a qualified mechanic to see if there's anything obviously wrong with it.
Is this a Craigslist ad (or similar site), are they telling you some story about why they need to sell it and are they offering to ship it to you for a trial? If so it's a scam.
That is very low miles and a very low price - I'd buy it if it were real. If you can see it/drive it AND if the seller has the title in hand you should have a mechanic check it and probably buy it.
In all likelihood it's a scam or has a salvage title.
A 2005 Honda Accord base DX model with 90,000 miles on the ODO has a retail value of $7,575 and a wholesale value of around $4,750. If it is an LX or EX it is worth even more, Be very, very, wary of this car. The price is way too cheap. I suspect it may have been totaled and has a rebuilt title. Pay a trusted mechanic of your choice to look this car over very carefully. Something is not right here or they would not be selling this car at this bargain price.

- Is 16,000 miles too much for a 2000 Honda Shadow? I'm going to go see a used 2000 Honda Shadow 600vlx which is being sold for $1500. It has ape hangers, a sissy bar and has been bobbed. Does this sound like a good deal or is there too many miles on the bike to begin with? In addition, what should I look for when I go see it to make sure it's running okay?
- Is a 10% discount off new car too much? Looking at a new car for about 27500 list price. I want $2200 off then I will sign. This way too much? (Its a Honda)
- Is it possible to trade in a used car for another used car? I bought a 2013 Toyota Yaris about 4 months ago. I bought mainly because it was cheap and fuel efficient. But I realized I don't really like. So I'm have buyers remorse. Is it possible to trade it in for another used car? I was thinking of getting a Honda Civic or a Volkswagen Jetta. How long should I wait to do the trade in?
