Is 16,000 miles too much for a 2000 Honda Shadow?
I'm going to go see a used 2000 Honda Shadow 600vlx which is being sold for $1500. It has ape hangers, a sissy bar and has been bobbed. Does this sound like a good deal or is there too many miles on the bike to begin with?
In addition, what should I look for when I go see it to make sure it's running okay?

In addition, what should I look for when I go see it to make sure it's running okay? The miles, by themselves aren't a problem. In actuality, it's good to see some miles put on a bike. You're only looking at a little over a thousand miles a year it's been ridden. To me though, I shy away from bikes that have been modified by anyone else.
Ape hangars means it's had to of had new cables installed. Were they good quality and new cables or old ones scavenged off other bikes? Bobbed: Same question. Quality work done, or just cut and snip.
When you go to check it out, first move would be to feel the engine and pipes to make sure it's cold and hasn't been previously warmed.
Check the oil, it should have a dip stick on the right side. Stick your pinky in there and see if the oil is clean or old and dirty.
Check all under the bike and look for signs of fuel and oil leaks. The bike should be spotless. By nature Honda Shadows don't leak unless there's problems.
Go ahead and start the bike up. It should start right up when you hit the button. If it fails to start, then you either have a low/bad battery or some other issue.
If it starts right up, let it warm a bit and then place a hand behind both exhausts and ensure the back flow seems to be fairly even and both sides warm up.
Swing the front wheel back and forth to ensure smooth steering. Visually check to ensure plenty of room left on the front brake pads. Ensure smooth operation of clutch. After that you have to ride it to check anything else.
$1500 for a good running 2000 Shadow is a pretty good sounding deal. A bike that has been modified is suspicious though. Too often, with bikes like that you find that the original owner monkeyed around and either ran out of interest or money and created a problem he didn't want to mess with. I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you. 15,000 is low. The issue is why was it bobbed? Was it crashed?
How was it bobbed? Did they cut the frame? Did they do it properly? It's probably Ok if it's in good running condition and the owner hasn't fuxked up the bob job. No.

- Would you purchase a 2004 Honda pilot for $6,000.000 that has 216,000 miles on it? I'm just browsing online looking at cars for sale and a lot of them have 200k or more miles on them and they want $4,000 or more. Why do people sale their cars for such a high price with a lot of miles on them? Its not just Hondas its all types of cars private and dealers as well
- Bike guys. 92 Honda Shadow. 22,000 miles. Asking $1200. Good deal or not? I'm totally new to street bikes, although I've ridden dirtbikes a lot. Just looking for any insights on the bike itself (I've heard they're fun and reliable) and thoughts on the pricing. I'm not looking for websites or anything, I've already done some research. I'm looking for actual experience.
- Is a honda shadow 750 too much bike for a beginner? I'm a pretty big guy, and they felt comfortable at the dealerships.dealerships. I'm seeing used ones selling for around 2500-3500 i great shape.3000 is about my budget, and I don't have unlimited money, I know people say to start on a 250 and sell it, but I don't really have the funds, and the 250s are about the same money as a shadow 750. I just wanna know if this bike would be an appropriate beginner
