1998 Honda Civic? Good buy? Or stay away?
Hi. I'm looking at a 1998 Honda Civic with 108k miles and was wondering if 108k is way too many miles for a Honda? Or if it should have life left on it? Not looking for the car to last me forever. Just need it for about a year or two until I'm out of college
It all depends on the condition of the car. If it was well-maintained, it could have plenty of life left in it, but you must realize that it is 17 years old and has over 100K miles. It could die at any time. Personally I would never buy a car that was that old or had over 100K miles on it.
No, 17 years, I would stay away. Unless you are planning to collect old cars for display, you shouldnt get one like that. What if it dies in 3 months? Also you may have tough time to find the right spares I guess.
And be sure that you can get a buyer after 1 year, thats when you have to sell it back.
Goodluck
The age of the car is against it.
That mileage is nothing on a Honda, but it's getting close to 20 years old. Random little things start to go wrong just due to age. Rubber parts perish, oil seals leak, electrical connections corrode etc.
Now if the car was only 8 years old, and had that mileage, it might be good for another 100K miles and 8 more years.
BUT, if you are on a budget, you can't have everything. It might be fine, and only need a few minor repairs in the next year or 2. Engine etc is probably fine, it's the accessories that start falling apart.
108K on a Honda? The engine is just run in.
18 year old bodywork may not be in such good shape.
Honda v tech engines are bullet proof I had a 1995 honda accord with 220,000 miles on the clock. I advertised it. The response was really good
It had 3 months t&t. It went for £220. The car never let me down. I, ve got a 2000 honda accord 1.8 v tech 120,000 miles on the clock. Every mot test was okay except the last one. I had to change the indicator bulbs. Not bad for an old banger eh. The only problem is the price of genuine honda parts.
A front bottom ball joint £86 each. Honda was voted most reliable car for 8 years on the trot. Enough said
This is low mileage provided the car has been taken care of. It should last you another 40k miles or so before stuff needs replacing.
- What is the squeaky noise on my 2009 honda rebel CMX 250 when I start the first time (it then goes away). What could this be? I have a Honda Rebel CMX 250 and it makes a weird horn / belt slipping like noice only in the morning when the first try to start the engine. What could this be?
- I have a 2003 Honda Oddessy it makes a whine noise only when I accelerate. If I let off the gas it stops and goes away. What could it? I have a 2003 Honda Oddessy it makes a while noise only when I accelerate. If I let off the gas it stops and goes away. What could it possibly be? Sounds like it's coming from the driver side for sure.
- Would v6 Honda Accord 1998 front bumper fit on a 4 cylinder Honda Accord 1998? I have a 1998 4 cylinder honda accord. If i purchase a 6 cylinder bumper would it fit? i'm trying to purchase this one. http://www.amazon.com/..._pC_nS_ttl
- I have a 1998 Honda CRV with 240 K miles. Needs $1200 of repair to pass inspection. Should i fix or buy a newer used Honda civic? Mike? I'm the original owner and have done a good job with oil changes etc. However, it needs 2 front control arms with ball joints and rear struts to pass inspection. I've also gone past my mileage on a second timing belt (first one done at 90K miles). Car body exterior and interior is in pretty good shape. Inside looks brand new. But repair cost at 1200 + timing belt ~500 =~1700 in repars. Is it time for a newer used auto.
