Spending $3000 on a used car?

I'm 20 years old looking to buy my first car. Would a $3000 2003 Honda Civic be a good purchase? Obviously I would make sure the thing isn't completely trash and what not but are cars that are that cheap even worth it?

It's not impossible to get a good reliable car, such as the Honda Civic, for only $3000. However, you should get it inspected by a professional mechanic BEFORE you buy to learn what problems it has, and what problems are likely in the near future. Because used cars are sold "as-is", there's nothing you can do if you find problems AFTER the purchase.

A Honda is probably worth that because its a Honda. But have it checked by a mechanic to at least make sure the motor & transmission are good.

A mazda 3 or ford focus might get you a little more for your money simply because they are not Hondas. But they are almost as good.

Back in '64, my best buddy from high school bought (with his mother's help) a BRAND NEW '64 Chevy top of the line Impala SS, 327-4spd manual trans for
(get this) 3400.00 dollars.

Well, those days are long gone. A 3 thousand dollar car THESE days is a somewhat risky purchase, so what you need to do is have a local mechanic do a once over on it and let you know what needs to be done to it if anything

Hondas have always been reliable. Look at the the mileage on the vehicle an condition of the car not only on the interior and general exterior, but under the hood and under the car as well. And as the common response would have it, have it looked at. It ma have a common problem that will come up in the future that you can learn of just by googling or doing a little digging and researching.

No, that wouldnt be a good purchase, because its to expensive. $1000 would be a good price for that car, maybe even $1250 would be tolerable, $2k is alot but $3k is totaly overprices.

if that 2003 honda civic was for $1250k, it would be worth it, because when the maintenance is done as the service manual says, the car will last another 100k miles and more. For three grands, no that is not worth it. Japanese electronic devices and cars are the most reliable.

Honestly, an old Honda is worth around $1,500 or so. You should get a Toyota instead those never break down.

That's way too much for a car that old. Go on craigslist, you will be able to find a much better deal. Just take it to a mechanic first to get it checked out.
