2001 HONDA CRV CRUISE DOES NOT WORK AND CAR IDLES ROUGH?
Most cruise controls are controlled by a vacuum source and if the vacuum hose is leaking that will cause both of your problems. The cruise servo may be mounted under the hood or it may be located behind the inner fenderwell, between the fender and splash shield. The splash shield is the plastic liner you see if you take the front wheel off.It has plastic clips or screws holding it on.Find the cruise servo and see if a vacuum hose is attached. If so the hose may be leaking vacuum. If you spray carb cleaner in the area of the servo and its hose and the engine idles up or stalls while you're spraying the cleaner, you've hit the vacuum leak with it which causes the surging idle. If the vacuum hose is ok, the servo may be leaking vacuum instead. Its usually a bulky unit. The cable attached to the throttle that's not the throttle cable is probably connected to the servo so try following the cable from the throttle body seeing where it leads to
Cruise does not work and rough idle: The very short description is not helping very much at all. Are the brake lights lit up when you step on the pedal? (I'm checking part of the circuit here)
Have you checked the three related fuses of the system? Does the main switch light lit up? Any indication lit up on the dash? A better description of the problem and observation will help us to help you.
Is the horn working? Check the # 52 as indicating in the wiring diagram below. If the fuse has power and the horn is not working: The cable reel could be defected and cause the cruise inoperable.
Start by checking the three fuses in the under dash: Fuse # 14 and # 25 (Both 7.5A) and fuse # 52 (15A) in the under hood fuse/ relay box.
The rest of the system consist of a cruise control cable, the cruise control unit, the clutch pedal switch (If manual transmission) or by reading what I've copied from the service/repair DVD:
The cruise control system a vacuum-based system and is designed to work at speeds above 25 mph. To activate the system, the cruise control dash mounted main switch must be in the on position. The main switch toggles between on and off by simply pressing it. When in the on position, an indicator light in the switch will light.
The cruise control system works a mechanical linkage to the throttle by way of a vacuum motor which is inside a server. This is a diaphragm moved by vacuum applied to one side. A solenoid driven valve connects the vacuum motor to a vacuum tank. Another solenoid vents the vacuum. The cruise control module controls the servo and the throttle by pulsing these solenoid valves on and off.
One input to the cruise control module is the vehicle speed, which is sent to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) by the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)
To diagnose the system, first note the symptom.
If the system does not engage at all:
Check the main switch, make sure it is in the on position.
Check the brake and clutch (if installed) pedal adjustments.
Check the wiring for the cruise vacuum unit and control unit.
Check the vacuum hose connections for the vacuum unit.
Check the vacuum unit throttle cable and verify that it is connected.
Check the speedometer operation. If the speedometer does not work, the VSS may be faulty.
If the system loses speed:
Check the vacuum hoses for the vacuum unit for leaks.
Check the vacuum storage tank for leaks.
If the vehicle loses speed before the system engages:
Check the cable adjustment from the vacuum unit to the throttle for excessive free play.
- What is the maximum speed my car and cruise at in terms of rpms for an indefinite period of time without risking problems? My car is a 2003 Honda Element with 4wd automatic. The car has 160 hp with 161 ft lbs of torque. It redlines at 6500 rpms. At want maximum RPM can this car sit at and still last me 300,000 to 400,000 miles? Can it cruise 4,000 rpms with no problems and still last me up to 300,000 - 400,000 miles or chances are it won't and it would overheat?
- Honda cb500 1994 temp. Gauge, and oil indicator does not work? Hey guys just got my first honda and of course it's great and i'm loving it, but i have a small issue with the temp gauge. It seems not to work, even when the fan turns on it does not seem to even get up from the bottom. So any ideas what and where i should try fixing? One more thing is that the oil indicator does not light up at the start, any ideas why? The lamp is ok I've checked it already
- Does driving on extremely rough roads damage your car? I was driving to my friends house for the first time a couple days ago and I got lost. I ended up having to drive up this road that was all dirt, extremely cracked and had bunch of crevasses. My car was lurching pretty hard as I was driving up. Does driving on a road such as this cause any problems for your car? My car is a Honda civic 2014 and I was going as slow as possible up hill.
- 2007 Honda Civic LX cruise control won't work? When i hit "cruise" to engage it, the light on the dash automatically turns off so i can't set it. I changed the fuse & it wasn't that. Might it just be the switch in the steering wheel?
