07 Honda Fit - P2413 code after alternator swap, is it possible the mechanic did something?

I just replaced my alternator with a mechanic a friend of mine recommended. When I went to pick up the car, I noticed a 'ticking' when the car fired up that wasn't there before. I'm not a confrontational guy so I didn't accuse him of messing anything up. I drove it home about 10 miles, no issues. I drive it the next day and the check engine light comes on. I get the code and it's P2413 which has to do with the EGR valve, is it possible the mechanic messed something up when swapping the alternator? I really don't have the money to make ANOTHER repair right now, am I ok to drive with it? What am I risking by driving?

You're not going to hurt anything, but you'll fail any emissions inspection. You can ask him to take a look at the EGR connections without being confrontational or "accusing" him. It's always possible to pull something off when you're working in the engine bay. EGR codes are common at ten years.

When he did the alternator he pulled something off and didn't realize it. Probably the tube that goes to the EGR passage cover right at the front of the intake manifold. If you look down in front of the engine you'll see a small tube sticking out that's supposed to have an exhaust hose attached to it, the noise you hear is the exhaust popping out the hose that is likely hanging free from that tube.

P2413 is the Exhaust Gas Recirculator.

It's possible something was knocked loose, or not reconnected during the alternator swap,

Take it back and ask nice if he can double check for that. If it's something minor like a loose wire, that he accidentally caused, it should also be simple to fix. If it's more serious than that, like the valve itself has failed, then it's probably just co-incidence.

  • Will a alternator from a 91 geo prizm fit in a 86 honda accord? The geo has engine damage and the honda has a dead alternator. I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me if I pulled the alt from the geo and put it in the honda if it would fit and work. I just need it to work for a few weeks until I could afford a new one. Any help would be appreciated.
  • What engines can I directly swap my D16y8 Honda motor for? It has to be more powerful and easy to swap? I have a civic with a d16y8 and its served me well but what motor could I easily swap in? I want to use the same gearbox but I don't mind swaping the ECU. The easier the swap and the more HP the better. Would prefer to use the stock manifold and intake etc.
  • Guy who changed my oil did something? I have a 2011 Honda Civic LX, I went to the honda dealership where I got the car for a routine servicing: they did everything. I got the car back when I got home I noticed the part on the dashboard that tells me how many miles are on the car didn't have the milage, but it says "oil life 100%" how do I change it back so that I can see the mileage on the car? It's no big not I just like to know what my miles are, last I seen it was at 45,000
