Check Engine Codes P0171 & P2A00 related to battery?

I'm getting check engine codes P0171 and P2A00 on my Honda Fit 2008. These both appear to be Air/Fuel injector readings. The weather has been terribly cold. I fueled up on Sunday, and the error showed up on Monday. I tried tightening the gas cap, but that didn't clear up the error. Firestone says they can't read code P2A00 (dealer specific) and Honda refuses to tell me what it means without running a $107 diagnostic.

A friend recommended disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. I'm going to try that tonight. My question is, is it true the battery could be causing these errors? My battery is from 2008 and I've been expecting it to die for several years now, but it's still running with healthy read outs for it's age. Is the battery causing these errors?

From what I can tell, the o2 sensor may need replacing. Once you do that, the other code should clear. But, follow some of the simpler checks in that link first.

Neither of these codes would be caused by the battery. The P2A00 is indeed related to air/fuel mixture. However, since you also have a P0171 System too Lean (Bank 1), I wouldn't start throwing parts at it. This sounds more like a vacuum leak that's throwing off the air fuel reading.

Disconnecting the battery cables is stupid. That may clear the codes temporarily, but if you don't fix the problem, they'll just come back. Worse yet, with electronic throttle bodies and all other kinds of memory accessories, disconnecting the battery may force you to do a relearn on all those devices.

This is a job for Honda, not Firestone. Those guys can barely handle tires, let alone fix engine performance problems.

Pay the money and have Honda fix it. There are way too many things you could replace and still not find the root cause. In other words, you're in over your head.
