Going from a 335i to a Mazda Miata?
I own a BMW 335i with terrible reliability issues. Of course I'm not going to tell the dealer I'm trading my car into about the issues, but it is the main motive for me getting rid of the car.
The car is still under warranty but it's paid off fully. I estimated the value of the car to be $30,000 based on Autotrader searches and the KBB resale value.
I'm actually thinking of going for something Japanese because I know it'll be more reliable. The only Japanese cars that interest me are the Miata and the Honda S2000. However, it's tough to find a Honda S2000 in good condition and I would much rather prefer a brand new car over a used one.
Do you think adapting to a Miata will be easy?
I rarely drive and I don't carry lots of groceries. I live alone & live in a big city. I usually walk to the store to pick things up. My car only takes me to work and the occasional road trip with my boyfriend.
So basically, I know the size of the Miata is not an issue. I'm just concerned about the comfort and build quality.
I test drove one and it seemed fine (in fact, it was so fun to drive that I didn't want to hand it back) but it was only for 30 minutes.
Added (1). Yes, I'm aware that I might have to spend a couple thousand $ to trade into a Miata.
Yes, I'm also aware that most Miatas are stick shift. My current car is stick shift so it's no problem.
Added (2). The wind noise was slightly louder than my current car on the highway but it's not significantly worse. The car lacked a backup camera too but it's the size of a couch so I doubt I'll even need one
Obviously, the two aren't really comparable. The Miata isn't a rocket, but is eminently tossable, whereas the BMW is a rocket, and while the handling is fantastic, the driving dynamics are very different. I had an 03 Miata, and it was a blast. Just taking an off ramp was a good time. There are loads of twisty backroads near me, and on occasion, I'd go out during a full moon and really howl. It was a blast. It had 50K on it when I bought it, and it never had the slightest problem. I also had a Camry as I have a family and need an appropriate car.
When my kid got his license, he couldn't drive stick. Both the Camry and Miata were manual, and he was a lousy enough driver, let alone driving a stick. Anyway, I didn't want a Miata as a daily driver, so I trade the Camry and got him something appropriate, and traded the Miata in on a 6 cylinder Honda Accord coupe with a stick. It's fun, but not Miata-fun.
If you do a lot of long-distance driving, I don't think you would be super happy with the Miata, but if long distance trips are rare, it could be fantastic. And the new model looks amazing. I'll have another one some day.
Looks like you liked it. Get one. Miatas are very reliable and hold their value.
Hi so what a come down from a prestige luxury car to a small noisy little car how ever there's n accounting for tastes with females.
A Mazda Miata? You sure pick a bunch of losers when buying a vehicle! Hope you make a lot of money.
- Mazda reliability? Particularly 2013 mazda 3? I'm in the market for a new car and I was looking between 2013 Toyota corolla which is just boring and doesn't have as much features compared to Honda, or mazda. The Mazda 3 is at a good price 1000 dollars cheaper then the Toyota. So my question is, is Mazda reliable for that generation, or should I stick with a very well known reliable car maker?
- I seized my 1999 Miata 1.8 engine. Can I swap in a b20? So I killed my engine. My question is can I swap in a b20 Honda engine. Those Miata engines are a bit pricey. A b20 is like $800 which is perfect. And if they can be swapped in what all will I need for it to be at Thank you
- I'm looking for a list of cars that look similar to the mazda miata? I'm looking for cars that have the same look/shape. I have a few right now (nissan z, honda s 2000, porsche boxster) i don't have a certain price range or anything. Just similar in the outside. Thank you! I really just need a range of cars that look the same in shape!
- Should I get a Honda Civic or a Miata? If I have to choose between those two. Note: i'm not as rich as you and I only like tuners for right now.
