First motorcycle for beginner rider?

Hi. I'm looking at getting my first motorcycle here soon, during the summer/riding season. I'll be signing up to take the MSF class soon. But I've been looking at two bikes, a dual sport and a little sportier bike. DR200 and Hyosung GT250r. Which one would you guys recommend me starting on? I'm about 6'5'' so I'm leaning towards the DR200 or a dual sport because of my height, but I kinda like the looks of a sportier bike like the Hyosung. Thanks in advance!

Added (1). Thanks for the input guys! I've also been looking at the Honda CRF250l. Don't want to go to high, start out small, safe and gradually work my way up

The DR hands down.
The Hyosung is weighty, crude and iffy in the reliability dept.

Have to agree with Joe, the DR. But you could jump up a notch or two due to your size, the DR 200 is okay but your height puts a bigger mass into the wind and that will reduce those 200cc's into 100. Think about a 450F Supermoto or even a Kawasaki KLR 650 if you think you can ride well enough (ask your MSF instructor(s.

Go sit on each. If you haven't check http://cycle-ergo.com/ to get an idea of how you will be sitting.
At your height, I would suggest to check the Kawasaki KLX250 with the 35" tall seat.

I'm not very familiar with either of those, so I'd have to recommend a Kawasaki EX650 for someone your height.

A DL-650 would work for you, you are too big for a 'sport' style bike in any size. A dual sport would be lighter and teach you about riding and slow speed handling without overwhelming you with weight.

  • Which motorcycle should I get for a beginner? I'm planning on buying a motorcycle because I'm turning 16 soon and I need a vehicle to commute to and from school. Which bike is reliable for a starter? Honda CBR 125CC, Yamaha R125, Ninja Kawasaki 250R or other bikes? I'm also in a budget and looking for a bike around $2,000 and will not go over $2500. I'm also 5'11 and 155 LBS.
  • What's a good beginner bike for a tall rider? I've always wanted to get a bike ever since my mom let me ride one when I was 12. I'm a 16 year old girl, 5'9", 135 pounds. I was thinking about a Triumph Bonneville (it's my dream to own one but now I'm thinking it's too small) or a Honda. Does anyone know what would be a good bike for me, even if I grow an inch or two more before I can afford one?
  • What is a good beginner motorcycle? I'm 5'7, never drove a manual, so I'm going to take the msf course. I just wanted to ask if you consider a Honda cbr500r as a good beginner bike, because I'm going to be driving in the freeway, thanks in advance
  • Motorcycle for a beginner? I'm about to begin my basic motorcycle riding lessons and honestly have no idea which motorcycle to purchase -- I'm looking to purchase a used cruiser. Honda Rebel or Kawasaki Vulcan maybe? I'm about 6'00" / 200 lbs.
