Should i buy a 1984 Honda Magna V65?

I looking at buying a 1984 Honda magna 1100 with about 37XXXk miles on it i'm just wondering if its a reliable bike and if its a bike that need quite a bit of maintenance. I currently have a 1992 Honda nighthawk 750 thats virtually maintenance free just oil changes, tires. I really want a bigger faster bike and i'm thinking about this 84 V65 i've come across. So if you know a little bit about the bike please share. Thanks

Added (1). I've read that you have to adjust the valves from time to time about every 10k miles and that there's a camshaft problem to them not lasting very long due to bad oil flow to the top of the head and that it could be fixed with a mod to how the oil flows to the head. Would that be an expensive mod?

I had an '83 V-45 when it was new. It was incredibly reliable. The dependability of a bike that's almost 30 years old will depend upon on the servicing it received. Most of the people I knew that had V-65s ran the bejeebus out of them.

Since its 30 years old i would say its reliable, and 'fixing' an oiling problem now is about pointless lol. If it looks well kept and the price is right go for it. Expect to have to work on it though and source parts that are likely out of production, it was a popular bike though and you could probably find just about anything you need for it still.

  • How many digits in my 1984 honda magna vin #? I went to get mike bike registered and the dmv tells me my vin# is wrong. Here is my dilemma: There are 14 obvious digits in the vin and before it there are 3 lower case letters. I brought them all 17 digits because i thought i had to have 17. Is it possible i only need 14 digits for this bike?
