Should I buy a 2002 used Harley Davidson Dyna or a 2015 Honda shadow?
I'm in the middle of buying a motorcycle and I'm in between buying a 2002 Harley Davidson dyna about 26500 miles in it for $6500, or I can buy for almost the same price a brand new Honda or Suzuki bike but not as much in the style I like, the Dyna the seller is giving is exactly what I want in a dyna it looks beautif has a few customs parts put into it and I'm favoring it a lot but, this is my first motorcycle buy so I don't want to make a mistake if I'm buying a used instead of an brand new, if you can share some pros and cons and some useful tips I would appreciate it much!
Which do you like best? Buy that one.
Do you like to ride bikes and or do you like to fix them? You will likely be riding the Shadow until your but hurts for the next 4 to 5 years. The Harley might be a brilliant bike but it won't be any good if it is sitting in your garage with a stalling problem.
Between two brand new Harley or Shadow, it will be a harder decision to make.
Well, let's see-
You can buy a brand new bike for the same amount as a 14 year old bike but the problem is you can't make up your mind and you want us to do that?!
Pros- one is brand new with a warranty.
one is a Harley you are drooling over.
Cons- one is 14 years old with no warranty.
one is not a Harley.
You are comparing two totally different motorcycles. The Harley is a much larger 1449cc bike that is air cooled, carburated, and is a beautiful machine. The Honda is a smaller 750cc water cooled, fuel injected, bike. They will ride and handle much different from each other. Ride them both and then make your decision.
Well, if I were you, I'd have bought the Dyna in a heartbeat…
Why?
Buying a motorcycle is a heart decision, not a brain decision!
Otherwise, we all would be riding Shadows, VFRs, & CBRs…
Now, don't get me wrong, I don't like Harleys… But if your heart is set on a Harley, don't let you brain or any of the gear-heads here say otherwise!
Go, get it…
Compare: 2002 Harley Davidson Dyna versus 2015 Honda Shadow:

The Dyna is about 650 pounds, the Shadow is about 560 pounds. The HD is only 90 pounds heavier.
The Dyna has 1450cc, the Shadow has 745cc. The HD has nearly double the displacement, more power.
The Dyna is used, in a year you will be able for roughly the same money. A new Honda will lose over $2,000.
The Shadow is a undersized clone of a Harley Davidson. The Dyna *IS* a Harley.
Looks to me like the Dyna is a win-win all the way.
BUT -- quote: "… My first motorcycle… "
Do you *know* you will enjoy riding in a year? Will you still be riding a cruiser, or will you will be on a standard or a sporty or even a maxi-scooter? Less motorcycle means easier to ride. A used 380 pound 652cc single cylinder Suzuki LS650/Savage/S40 (same bike) can be bought for about $2K. Ride for a season and learn what you will actually prefer in a motorcycle.
Probably going to crash your first bike at least once, why not dump $2,000 into a "beginner" bike that is more forgiving than a 650 pound chrome sofa to make your beginner mistakes on?
Or just go big and hope you don't make the same mistakes 99% of beginners make.
I would buy the Harley if I had to make a choice-- but it wouldn't be my first bike and wouldn't be my first Harley either- would be about 4th Big Twin- nothing about the Harley would surprise any more than some road conditions--stupidity of cell phone users and some other electronicly addict drivers and pedestrians still makes me wonder about going Amish to survive. For first rider- try a used Shadow for a year.
You sit on a motorcycle
you sit in a harley
I'd get a used bike to drop before I spent a bunch on your "dream bike".
Oh, you didn't mention your dream bike… Well, which of those two is closer to your dream bike?
Get it, drop it, don't say we didn't warn you.
- Why are those Harley Davidson motorcycles very popular among old people? Usually, I see young people riding Honda or Kawasaki kind of motorcycles. But there are many old men who ride Harley Davidson stuff. Why do those young people prefer those fast bikes and old people like those Harley Davidson stuff?
- Harley Davidson Forty Eight is a good choice for first bike? - 1 Many people offer small bikes for starting, like Honda CBF, scooters etc. But I love forty eight. Its my dreams bike, what do you think? It would be good choice for me? If won't' be good, what is the starting model in Harley Davidson's?
- I'm deciding between a 2001 Harley Davidson sportster 1200 custom or a 2000 Honda Shadow sabre don't know which one to get The Harley Davidson sportster custom 1200 has 17,000 miles it's green and he wants 3,300 for it. Or a Honda Shadow sabre has 7000 miles on it and it's blue they want 2,999 for it 3221 including taxes.
- Can you put harley wide glide forks on a honda shadow ace 1100? Both forks are 41mm. I'm trying to put a 21" front tire on the bike and I'm weighing my options on what I should do. If the forks can set into the triple tree with not much problem Luke only having to make shims then that's the way to go.
